Qualifications

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Engenheiro de Software Senior based in Brazil.

In this role, you will serve as a key technical leader, shaping the engineering vision and evolution of backend microservices that power digital commerce, payments, and fraud prevention. You will drive architectural decisions, lead complex cross-team initiatives, and ensure systems remain robust, scalable, observable, and maintainable. Working in a remote and collaborative environment, you will partner with engineering leadership and other teams to define technical priorities, reduce technical debt, and improve development practices. You will also help guide the adoption of generative AI tools and emerging technologies, balancing innovation with system reliability and security. Beyond delivering solutions, you will foster a culture of knowledge sharing, constructive technical discussions, and continuous improvement. Accountabilities

• Technical leadership and engineering vision: Shape the technical direction of backend microservices and serve as the team's primary technical reference. Develop a deep understanding of existing applications, their architecture, and the reasoning behind key design decisions, while identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Architecture and system design: Design and guide the implementation of robust, scalable, observable, and maintainable systems. Orchestrate complex solutions across multiple components and teams, ensuring architectural consistency and reliable integrations.
• Technical planning and debt management: Identify technical debt, evaluate architectural risks, propose improvements, and help define and prioritize the technical backlog. Plan system changes that support long-term sustainability, operational efficiency, and business objectives.
• Cross-team project ownership: Independently lead complex initiatives and technical stories involving multiple teams, coordinating dependencies, aligning stakeholders, and ensuring successful delivery from planning through implementation.
• Engineering leadership and collaboration: Work closely with team leadership to support technical planning and decision-making, stepping in for leadership responsibilities when needed. Contribute to strategic discussions and help align engineering priorities with broader organizational goals.
• Generative AI and technology adoption: Evaluate new technologies, development tools, and generative AI solutions, helping define adoption strategies that improve productivity without compromising code quality, system resilience, or security.
• Developer productivity and best practices: Identify and implement tools, workflows, and engineering practices that streamline development, improve efficiency, and strengthen the team's ability to deliver reliable software.
• Mentoring and knowledge sharing: Promote continuous learning by sharing technical expertise, creating opportunities for collaboration, and helping colleagues improve their ideas and solutions through constructive feedback.
• Technical communication and decision-making: Clearly communicate architectural choices and technical decisions, supporting them with sound reasoning and evidence. Encourage an environment where ideas can be challenged, reviewed, and improved collaboratively.
• Hands‑on ownership and organizational impact: Take responsibility for essential engineering tasks, including less visible operational work, and set a strong example for less experienced team members. Requirements

• Professional experience: At least five years of professional software development experience, with a strong background in backend engineering and delivering production‑grade systems.
• Java and Spring expertise: Extensive hands‑on experience developing backend applications using Java and the Spring ecosystem.
• Strong computer science fundamentals: Solid technical knowledge of algorithms, programming languages, the Java Virtual Machine (JVM), networking, databases, and distributed systems.
• Microservices architecture: Deep understanding of microservices architecture, including the ability to explain, evaluate, and challenge architectural decisions and their implications for scalability, maintainability, and reliability.
• System design and scalability: Proven experience designing robust, observable, scalable solutions and coordinating complex implementations across multiple components, services, and engineering teams.
• Generative AI proficiency: Regular use of generative AI tools in software development, with the ability to assess their benefits, limitations, and risks and guide adoption without weakening system reliability or code quality.
• Production operations and incident management: Experience leading production support, coordinating incident response, investigating root causes, and conducting post-incident analyses to prevent recurring issues and improve system resilience.
• Technical debt and engineering strategy: Demonstrated ability to identify technical debt, recommend architectural and process improvements, and contribute to the definition and prioritization of technical backlogs.
• Technical leadership and mentoring: Ability to serve as a trusted technical reference, support colleagues' development, facilitate knowledge sharing, and influence engineering decisions without relying solely on formal authority.
• Communication and collaboration: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly and support them with sound reasoning. Openness to constructive criticism, peer review, and having your own ideas challenged.
