Job summary

Deel is seeking a Staff Engineer for the US Payroll team to serve as a key technical advisor and architect. You will guide architecture and engineering excellence across the organization and partner with the Director of Engineering to shape critical initiatives.

Your role focuses on scaling the US Payroll platform to serve SMB and enterprise clients, driving performance, reliability, and cross-team collaboration while maintaining high technical standards.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• Leadership across 30+ engineers and multiple teams.
• Strong system design and architecture skills.
• Excellent technical communication and documentation.

Responsibilities

• Serve as principal technical advisor to the Director of Engineering.
• Lead architecture for critical initiatives and ensure alignment with business goals.
• Represent engineering in planning sessions with product and design to drive cross-functional alignment.
• Standardize engineering practices and design processes to improve team velocity and quality.
• Mentor senior engineers and tech leads to raise the bar across the organization.
• Bridge the gap between engineering and wider leadership to drive strategic outcomes.
