Job summary

KCS IT is searching for a Senior Backend Software Engineer (Mainframe) to join our international teams. You will work on complex mainframe applications, translating business needs into robust technical solutions and ensuring quality through testing and reviews.

The role requires strong communication in Dutch and English, collaboration with multiple stakeholders, and willingness to participate in an on-call rotation. Hybrid or onsite opportunities across the Benelux region are available.

Qualifications

• Over 5 years of experience in BackEnd Software Development in Mainframe environments.
• Solid technical experience with COBOL, PL/1, EGL, DB2, IDz Workbench, CI/CD, GitHub and Changeman.
• Ability to translate business requirements into functional designs and to define program structures.

Responsibilities

• Understand functional specifications and translate them into technical designs.
• Create and execute test cases, modify existing programs and support production environments.
• Document changes to existing applications and participate in code reviews.
• Resolve incidents and defects with proper follow-up until closure.
• Perform technical integration testing with interfacing applications.
• Work independently and adapt quickly to new environments and technologies.

We are looking for an Amazing: Senior Backend Software Engineer (Mainframe)

Seniority: Senior (+5 years of experience)

The amazing you, will have:

• Over 5 years of experience in BackEnd Software Development.
• Solid technical experience in Mainframe environments, particularly with COBOL, PL/1, EGL, DB2, IDz Workbench, CI/CD, GitHub and Changeman.
• Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into functional and technical designs.
• Experience analysing functional specifications, defining program structures and implementing technical solutions.
• Experience creating and executing test cases, modifying existing programs and supporting production environments.
• Ability to design and document changes to existing applications.
• Experience conducting self and peer code reviews.
• Experience resolving incidents and defects, ensuring proper follow-up until closure.
• Experience performing technical integration testing with interfacing applications.
• Ability to work independently, quickly adapt to new technical and functional environments and embrace innovation.
• Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving and result-oriented mindset.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to clearly and effectively communicate ideas to both IT and business stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively in complex environments involving multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
• Availability to participate in an on-call rotation.
• Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English, particularly in an international working environment.
