Vivid Resourcing is seeking a Senior Test Engineer to own testing across the development lifecycle, translating requirements into structured test strategies, plans, and campaigns. The role spans software, electronics/hardware and mechanical systems, with hands-on testing across disciplines.

You will develop automated testing using Python, lead test activities, mentor engineers and contribute to planning within a multidisciplinary R&D team.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.

• Experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers is an advantage.

We are looking for a Senior Test Engineer to take ownership of testing activities across the development lifecycle, ensuring that products meet their defined requirements, specifications and performance targets. You will play a leading role in translating product requirements and technical specifications into clear and structured test strategies, plans, test cases and test campaigns, while helping to shape the overall testing approach for new and existing products.

The role is hands-on and multidisciplinary. You will be involved in testing software, electronics/hardware and mechanical systems, giving you the opportunity to work across different areas of the product rather than focusing on a single testing discipline. You will lead test activities, analyse results, investigate failures and work closely with R&D engineers to identify root causes and drive issues through to resolution.

A key part of the position will also be developing and improving automated testing using Python. You will identify opportunities to automate repetitive tests, develop scripts and test frameworks, and help establish robust and scalable approaches to test automation. The role therefore combines technical leadership, practical engineering and troubleshooting with software-based test automation.

You will work closely with software, hardware, mechanical and systems engineers, providing technical input from testing activities and helping to identify potential design issues early in the development process. You will also help improve testing methodologies, mentor less experienced engineers where appropriate, and contribute to planning and decision-making within multidisciplinary R&D projects. Your work will have a direct impact on product quality, reliability and overall product performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Define and document test strategies, plans, test cases and test methodologies based on product requirements and specifications.
• Lead and coordinate test campaigns, ensuring appropriate coverage of functional, technical and performance requirements.
• Execute test activities across software, electronics/hardware and mechanical components.
• Analyse test results, identify anomalies and investigate the root causes of failures.
• Perform hands‑on troubleshooting and fault finding across multidisciplinary systems.
• Work closely with hardware, software, mechanical and systems engineers to resolve identified issues and influence design improvements.
• Develop and maintain automated test scripts and test frameworks using Python.
• Identify opportunities to automate repetitive or time‑consuming testing activities.
• Improve the efficiency, reliability and repeatability of testing through automation.
• Document test results, failures, corrective actions and overall campaign outcomes.
• Support regression testing following design changes, software updates or hardware modifications.
• Drive improvements to testing methodologies, tools and processes.
• Provide technical guidance and support to other engineers within the testing and R&D teams.
• Ensure testing provides clear evidence that products meet relevant quality, functional and technical requirements.

Your Profile:

• Degree in Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
• Several years of experience in a Test Engineer, Verification Engineer, Validation Engineer or similar role.
• Strong understanding of structured test strategy, planning, test case definition and test execution.
• Comfortable troubleshooting multidisciplinary systems involving software, hardware and mechanical components.
• Strong experience with Python, ideally for test automation, scripting or data analysis.
• Analytical and methodical approach to identifying problems and determining root causes.
• Able to interpret technical specifications and translate requirements into practical test scenarios.
• Good documentation and communication skills.
• Comfortable taking ownership of verification activities and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary R&D teams.
• Strong communication and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to challenge test approaches and identify gaps in test coverage where appropriate.
• Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior or less experienced engineers is an advantage.
• A hands‑on mindset and willingness to investigate problems directly on the product or test setup.
