We are looking for a Senior Network Engineer for a freelance assignment managing, supporting and optimising an international network infrastructure in the energy sector.
The role covers enterprise office networks as well as technical and industrial networks, including Distributed Control System (DCS) networks. The successful candidate will ensure network reliability, availability, security and performance in a critical industrial environment.
Assignment
Freelance – total mission duration of up to 3 years, including possible extensions.
Work setup
Hybrid – Antwerp, Belgium.
Travel
Independent travel to power plants across Europe is required.
Responsibilities
- -Monitor network performance across enterprise, technical and industrial environments.
- -Diagnose and troubleshoot network issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
- -Maintain high availability, performance and security across the network infrastructure.
- -Manage network cabling, including the identification of UTP cables.
- -Collaborate with third-party providers and stakeholders in an industrial environment.
- -Provide clear communication and technical support to internal teams and external partners.
- -Ensure third parties understand technical issues, expectations and required actions to support the timely delivery of objectives.
Must-have requirements
- -Substantial hands-on experience in industrial environments, with 5–10 years of relevant experience.
- -VCA certification
- -Hands-on experience with Fortinet solutions, including firewalling and SD-WAN.
- -Practical experience with Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE).
- -Strong expertise in enterprise routing and switching, including BGP, OSPF and VRF.
- -Experience supporting enterprise-grade WiFi environments.
- -Practical experience and relevant certification in cloud networking technologies, such as Microsoft Azure and AWS.
- -Practical experience and relevant certification in Zscaler technologies, including Zscaler Internet Access (ZIA) and Zscaler Private Access (ZPA).
- -Extensive experience with DCS networks, including legacy environments and vendors such as Siemens, ABB and GE.
- -Proficiency in SolarWinds for network monitoring.
- -Familiarity with power plant operations.
- -A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel independently to power plants across Europe.
- -Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- -Strong communication skills when working with internal teams, third parties and external stakeholders.
- -Professional working proficiency or fluency in French, Dutch and English.
