Job summary

Magnus Energy is seeking a (Senior) Consultant in Power System Operations & Planning to support European energy organisations. You will handle operational planning, regional coordination and power-system studies for TSOs, RCCs, DSOs and technology providers.

Ideal candidates have 1–5 years of relevant experience, strong knowledge of power-system operations, and proficiency in Python. Fluency in English (C1) and additional European languages are valued.

Qualifications

• A BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or a related discipline.
• 1-5 years of relevant professional experience in energy consultancy or utilities.
• Good knowledge of power system operations and planning processes.
• Hands-on experience with transmission-network modelling, load-flow and contingency analyses.

Responsibilities

• Deliver technical consulting assignments related to operational planning, regional coordination and power system studies.
• Lead transmission-network modelling, load-flow and contingency analyses and translate results into insights.
• Lead defined technical workstreams and coordinate with clients and project teams.
• Contribute to client workshops, proposals and tender responses.
• Use Python or other scripting to automate analyses and improve quality.
• Help develop methodologies and reusable analytical assets while mentoring colleagues.

What You Will Do

As a (Senior) Consultant - Power System Operations & Planning, you will support leading European energy organisations in solving complex operational and power-system challenges. You will work with TSOs, RCCs, DSOs, and technology providers and contribute to the further development of Magnus Energy’s capabilities in Power System Operations & Planning.

We welcome Consultants (1-3 years) and Senior Consultants (3-5 years) who are eager to apply their technical expertise to real-world energy challenges with responsibilities tailored to suit your experience and ambitions.

In summary, you will:

• Deliver technical consulting assignments related to operational planning, regional coordination and power system studies.
• Perform transmission-network modelling, load-flow analysis and contingency analysis, and translate results into decision-ready insights.
• Lead defined technical workstreams and coordinate effectively with client experts, project managers and other stakeholders.
• Contribute to client workshops, presentations, proposals and tender responses.
• Use Python or other scripting approaches to improve analysis, automate repeatable activities and enhance delivery quality.
• Support the development of methodologies, reusable analytical approaches and knowledge assets, while sharing expertise and supporting the development of colleagues and team members.

Who We Are Looking For

You bring:

• A BSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Energy Systems or a related discipline.
• 1-5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably within an energy or power-system consultancy, TSO, RCC, DSO or technology provider.
• Good knowledge of power system operations and operational-planning processes.
• Practical experience in transmission-network modelling, load-flow analysis and contingency analysis.
• Experience working directly with clients or stakeholders and independently delivering technical workstreams.
• Hands-on experience with Python or another scripting or programming language.
• Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to grasp complex concepts and convey them succinctly.
• Professional proficiency in English (minimum C1). Fluency in Dutch, German French or another European language, preferred with the ability to work effectively in an international environment.

Good to have:

• Experience with DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS®E, Pandapower or comparable power-system analysis software.
• Experience with dynamic studies, distribution-network modelling or data-quality and validation workflows.
• Exposure to Regional Coordination Centre processes.
• Knowledge of CIM/CGMES, Network Code profiles and power-system data exchange.
• Experience contributing to proposals or tenders.
