Sofico is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help build a distributed workflow platform that connects Miles with the SOFICO AI Cloud. You will tackle long-running processes, ensure reliability across failures, and drive integration with Java/Quarkus services and AI components.

From our Ghent office, you’ll work hybrid with flexible hours, shaping standards for a new platform at the intersection of backend engineering, distributed systems, and Agentic AI.

Qualifications

• Proven backend engineering experience with modern languages (Java preferred).
• Experience designing distributed, asynchronous or event-driven systems in production.
• Strong understanding of failures, retries, state and transactions in reliable systems.
• Experience with microservices, APIs and automated testing.
• Interest or experience in AI-assisted software engineering and using AI tools in the lifecycle.

Responsabilités

• Build reliable distributed workflows coordinating core processes across Miles and the SOFICO AI Cloud.
• Design resilient systems with retries, idempotency, failure recovery and compensating actions.
• Develop integrations between the workflow platform and Java/Quarkus services, AI components and enterprise systems.
• Build testing, monitoring and observability around long-running processes.
• Help shape engineering standards and the platform architecture at the intersection of backend engineering, distributed systems and Agentic AI.
