Sofico NV in Ghent, Belgium, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help build the SOFICO AI Cloud and the Miles Enterprise Agentic Platform. You will design and implement reliable distributed workflows, deep-dive into backend services, and collaborate across teams.

You’ll work with Java/Quarkus, Python and modern tooling to ensure scalability, observability and fault-tolerance, while shaping the standards for a new platform at the intersection of backend engineering and AI.

Qualifications

• Strong professional experience in backend software engineering, ideally with Java or another modern backend language.
• Experience building distributed, asynchronous or event-driven systems in production.
• A good understanding of how to design reliable systems around failures, retries, state and transactions.
• Experience with microservices, APIs and automated testing.
• Experience or genuine interest in AI-assisted software engineering: at SOFICO, we actively encourage engineers to bring AI tools into every step of the product and software development lifecycle, and you should be eager to grow that practice with us

Now we're expanding our Data & AI organisation and building the SOFICO AI Cloud, the platform underpinning the Miles Enterprise Agentic Platform.

From our office in Ghent, we're looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to help build the distributed workflow platform connecting our enterprise software with the next generation of AI-powered capabilities.

You'll solve a particularly interesting engineering challenge: how do you make complex, long-running business processes continue reliably when services fail, networks go down or individual steps need to be retried?

You'll use technologies such as Temporal, Java/Quarkus and Python to make these processes reliable, observable and scalable.
