Sofico NV in Ghent, Belgium, is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to help build the SOFICO AI Cloud and the Miles Enterprise Agentic Platform. You will design and implement reliable distributed workflows, deep-dive into backend services, and collaborate across teams.

You’ll work with Java/Quarkus, Python and modern tooling to ensure scalability, observability and fault-tolerance, while shaping the standards for a new platform at the intersection of backend engineering and AI.

Qualifications

• Strong professional experience in backend software engineering, ideally with Java or another modern backend language.
• Experience building distributed, asynchronous or event-driven systems in production.
• A good understanding of how to design reliable systems around failures, retries, state and transactions.
• Experience with microservices, APIs and automated testing.
• Experience or genuine interest in AI-assisted software engineering: at SOFICO, we actively encourage engineers to bring AI tools into every step of the product and software development lifecycle, and you should be eager to grow that practice with us

Responsabilités

• Build reliable distributed workflows that coordinate business-critical processes across Miles and the SOFICO AI Cloud.
• Design systems that remain reliable when things go wrong, using retries, idempotency, failure recovery and compensating actions.
• Develop integrations between our workflow platform, Java/Quarkus services, AI components and enterprise systems.
• Build strong testing, monitoring and observability around long-running business processes.
• Help shape the engineering standards and architecture of a new platform at the intersection of backend engineering, distributed systems and Agentic AI.
