SOFICO, based in Ghent, is seeking a Software Engineer - Java Backend to contribute to the next-generation calculation engine. You will design backend solutions for high-volume calculations and collaborate across engineering to deliver scalable systems.

The role offers hybrid work and a structured onboarding program designed to accelerate growth. You will work in an international environment with English communication, ownership of technical solutions, and opportunities for knowledge sharing

Qualifications

• Experience as a Software Engineer with backend focus.
• Strong Java backend skills and knowledge of microservices.
• Experience with relational databases (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL).
• Ability to work in an international engineering environment and communicate in English.

From our office in Ghent, we're looking for a Software Engineer - Java Backend who's eager to contribute to the development of our next-generation calculation engine, designed to process millions of complex leasing scenarios at high speed and scale.

What you'll do...

• Design and develop backend solutions for our next-generation calculation engine, built to handle complex, high-volume calculations in milliseconds.
• Help build a scalable system capable of pre-calculating millions of leasing scenarios, taking into account promotions, services and extensive configuration options.
• Work closely with fellow engineers and Product Owners to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Contribute throughout the development lifecycle as part of an agile Scrum team, from refinement and implementation to testing and continuous improvement.
• Share your expertise within SOFICO’s global developer community, contributing to engineering best practices and technical innovation.

What you bring...

• Professional experience as a Software Engineer, with strong backend development skills in Java 17, Java EE7 and Java frameworks.
• Experience designing and developing software using a microservices architecture.
• Solid experience with relational databases such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with fluent English and the ability to collaborate effectively within an international engineering environment.
• Experience developing high-performance or high-volume backend systems where scalability and response time are important.
• Experience working closely with Product Owners and taking end-to-end ownership of technical solutions.
• Experience contributing to engineering best practices through code reviews, knowledge sharing or developer communities.
