SOFICO in Ghent is seeking a Software Engineer – Java Backend to design and build scalable backend services within our Miles platform. You will work in an international Scrum team, delivering high-volume calculations and microservices-driven solutions.

The role emphasizes collaboration, early feedback, and continuous improvement, with hybrid work and a structured onboarding program to help you grow and contribute from day one.

Qualifications

• Proven backend development experience in Java (Java 17, Java EE7).
• Experience designing and developing microservices.
• Strong SQL skills with Oracle, SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
• Fluent English and collaboration in an international team.

What you’ll do…

• Design and develop backend solutions for our next-generation calculation engine, built to handle complex, high-volume calculations in milliseconds
• Help build a scalable system capable of pre-calculating millions of leasing scenarios, taking into account promotions, services and extensive configuration options
• Work closely with fellow engineers and Product Owners to translate complex business requirements into scalable technical solutions
• Contribute throughout the development lifecycle as part of an agile Scrum team, from refinement and implementation to testing and continuous improvement
• Share your expertise within SOFICO’s global developer community, contributing to engineering best practices and technical innovation

What you bring…

• Professional experience as a Software Engineer, with strong backend development skills in Java 17, Java EE7 and Java frameworks
• Experience designing and developing software using a microservices architecture
• Solid experience with relational databases such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server or PostgreSQL
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with fluent English and the ability to collaborate effectively within an international engineering environment
