European Environmental Bureau, based in Brussels, is seeking a (Senior) Accounting Officer to manage day-to-day accounting, closing activities and tax compliance. The role supports the Head of Finance in producing accurate financial statements and maintaining strong internal controls.

The position offers a permanent contract with 100% or 80% hours, hybrid work, and a competitive package tailored to experience. Belgian NGO experience is valued.

Qualifications

• Solid hands-on accounting experience with GL, reconciliations and month/year-end closing.
• Knowledge of Belgian VAT rules and practical application in accounting.
• Experience preparing or supporting annual accounts, financial reporting and external audits.
• Comfort with accounting software (WinBooks) and Excel.
• Able to work independently and in a team.
• Fluent spoken and written English.

Responsabilités

• Manage day-to-day accounting cycle: supplier/customers, invoicing, payroll accounting and GL.
• Conduct regular bank, supplier, customer, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Lead monthly and year-end closings, including accruals, prepayments, provisions and fixed assets.
• Prepare annual accounts and financial statements with Head of Finance.
• Review invoices and payments, ensuring compliance with procedures and Belgian regulations.
• Support audits and provide data for financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting.
• Improve accounting processes and internal controls; provide guidance on accounting rules.
