The role requires 5+ years of engineering experience, strong skills in AI technologies, and the ability to work in small, high-performance teams. You will oversee the full engineering flow, from architecture to deployment, and have potential for equity in launched ventures. StarApps is a Ghent-based venture studio building AI-first, product-led companies with a radical focus on speed and validation. We launch products in days, not months, through small, elite teams.

We ’ve spun out and co-created ventures like Donna, Introw, FixForm, Cashfeed, Driven, and Bizzy — and continuously prototype new concepts where AI unlocks 10x productivity or new business models.

As a Resident Engineer, you join these micro-teams to build, validate, and ship AI-native products end-to-end at extreme velocity.

Tasks

What You’ll Do

• Build and ship AI-powered MVPs with ultra-fast iteration cycles.
• Own the full engineering flow: architecture → development → AI integration → deployment.
• Turn ideas into testable prototypes within hours or days.
• Work directly with designers, operators, and potential founders.
• Instrument products for learning: analytics, feedback loops, growth experiments.
• Focus on time‑to‑value, not perfection.
• Guide technical direction; possible path to technical lead or co‑founder.
• Evaluate and integrate new AI models, tools, and frameworks.

Requirements

What You Bring

• 5+ years of hands‑on engineering (backend or full‑stack), ideally in fast‑paced environments.
• Proven ability to build and ship independently, ideally with AI at the core.
• Strong understanding of LLMs, vector DBs, embeddings, and automation workflows.
• Ability to move from concept → prototype → MVP rapidly.
• Comfort operating in small, high‑performance teams with full ownership.
• Strong product intuition and bias toward action.
• Experience with cloud‑native development and modern frameworks.
• Fully dedicated (no external commercial commitments).
