Vrije Universiteit Brussel invites applications for a part-time professor position in humanitarian engineering within the Faculty of Social Sciences & Solvay Business School. The role focuses on leading an internationally recognized program addressing urban mobility and inclusion, supervising postgraduate research, and contributing to seminars and international exchanges.

Qualifications

• PhD in engineering relevant for the research field.
• 10+ years in humanitarian engineering, including international and locally embedded contexts.
• 5+ years in social-science research using quantitative and qualitative methods.
• 5+ years in equity and inclusion related work.
• Strong research record with dissemination and peer-review activity.
• Experience acquiring external research funding and coordinating funded projects.
• Proven leadership with students and research collaborators.
• Active engagement with societal or community initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Supervise Master’s and PhD students in humanitarian engineering, sustainability and inclusion.
• Contribute to research seminars, doctoral training and international exchanges.
• Develop and lead an internationally recognized research program addressing urban mobility and vulnerable populations.
• Engage with engineers and stakeholders as co-researchers and research participants.
• Disseminate results through international scientific and societal channels.
• Collaborate with Mobilise Research Group and HOST to advance sustainability research.
• Foster cross-disciplinary collaboration and external funding proposals.
• Engage with policymakers and community organizations to promote societal impact.
