KU Leuven invites applications for a PhD position to study interreligious dialogue in Morocco, focusing on Jewish–Muslim heritage and education. The project is part of a comparative Belgium–Morocco study and involves an interdisciplinary team. As a PhD candidate you will conduct ethnographic fieldwork in Morocco, collaborate with scholars in theology and anthropology, and be supervised by Prof.

Nadia Fadil and Prof. Marianne Moyaert with external supervision from Rabat.

Qualifications

• Master degree in Anthropology or related discipline is required.
• Strong experience with qualitative and ethnographic research.
• Interest in religious diversity, interreligious dialogue, Islam, Jewish–Muslim relations, heritage studies, or postcolonial approaches.

Responsabilités

• Prepare and conduct qualitative and ethnographic research on interreligious dialogue, Jewish-Muslim relations, and religious diversity in Morocco.
• Carry out extended fieldwork in Morocco and in the Southern region of the country.
• Conduct ethnographic research in Jewish heritage sites, pilgrimage contexts, cultural initiatives, and educational settings.
• Analyze how participants experience and negotiate dominant narratives concerning dialogue, tolerance and coexistence.
• Publish scientific articles and work towards a PhD dissertation.
• Present research findings at national and international conferences.
• Complete the KU Leuven doctoral programme with co-supervision from Rabat.
• Collaborate with other researchers to complete academic, logistical and administrative project tasks.
• Be available for teaching assistance or other tasks for 10% of time.
