Job description

Shape Medical Affairs and contribute to future product launches across the Benelux.

We are recruiting a Medical Director Benelux on behalf of an international biopharmaceutical company. The organisation operates in a dynamic, science-driven environment and is further developing its activities and portfolio across the Benelux.

In this key position, you will shape the Medical Affairs strategy for the Benelux. You will combine scientific expertise with leadership, stakeholder management and a strong focus on successful product launches. You will be a member of the local Leadership Team and work closely with international and global teams.

As Medical Director Benelux, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the Medical Affairs strategy for Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, working closely with the international headquarters and the local organisation.

You will translate global medical strategies into a relevant local approach and safeguard scientific quality and medical rigour throughout the product lifecycle. You will build lasting relationships with KOLs, scientific societies, investigators and other key stakeholders.

Alongside your scientific responsibilities, you will play an active role on the Benelux Leadership Team. You will collaborate closely with the General Manager, Marketing, Sales, Clinical Development, Quality Assurance and Pharmacovigilance, ensuring that medical activities are conducted ethically, professionally and in compliance with applicable requirements.

Key responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement the Medical Affairs strategy for the Benelux in line with the global medical strategy and local market needs.
  • Ensure clear and compelling scientific positioning of the products and translate complex medical information into relevant insights for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with KOLs, scientific societies, centres of excellence, investigators and other key external stakeholders.
  • Contribute actively to the continued growth and development of the organisation as a member of the Benelux Leadership Team.
  • Work closely with the General Manager to ensure product promotion is responsible, ethical and professional, and complies with relevant legal, regulatory and pharmacovigilance requirements.
  • Collaborate with Global Clinical Development on investigator meetings, advisory boards and interactions with researchers involved in clinical studies.
  • Initiate and oversee real-world evidence (RWE) programmes and investigator-sponsored studies, supporting global clinical studies where required.
  • Develop and implement a strong scientific communication strategy and contribute to the medical and scientific review of publications and manuscripts.
  • Take responsibility for the medical and scientific review and approval of scientific communication platforms, medical information resources, medical education materials and relevant marketing materials.
  • Prepare and monitor the Medical Affairs budget and align strategies and tactics accordingly.
  • Support scientific training for the Benelux sales organisation, ensuring commercial teams have accurate and relevant medical knowledge.
  • Provide direction and scientific support to the MSL teams, focusing on insight generation and high-quality external engagement.
  • Build a strong scientific network to support clinical projects and innovative initiatives related to the portfolio.
  • Collaborate with local and global Quality Assurance and Pharmacovigilance functions to ensure compliance with Benelux requirements.
  • Work alongside the General Manager to ensure relevant GxP-related activities comply with global policies, SOPs and local requirements.
Requirements:
  • You are a medical doctor, pharmacist or have a strong scientific background.
  • You have at least 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, most of it within Medical Affairs.
  • You have broad, up-to-date knowledge of the main Medical Affairs disciplines and understand the medical support required at different stages of the product lifecycle.
  • You have a proven track record of successful product launches across the Benelux.
  • You bring relevant Medical Affairs experience at country, regional and/or global level and have a solid understanding of the Benelux pharmaceutical market.
  • You have relevant therapeutic experience in CNS and/or cardiology.
  • You have strong experience in real-world evidence (RWE), scientific communication and medical-scientific stakeholder engagement.
  • You have good knowledge of Regulatory Affairs, Pharmacovigilance and relevant compliance and GxP frameworks.
  • You excel at stakeholder management and readily build credible relationships with KOLs, scientific societies, investigators and other external partners.
  • You bring the leadership skills and enthusiasm to connect teams, strengthen collaboration and unite people around a shared goal.
  • You combine strategic thinking with a hands-on approach and can manage multiple priorities without compromising quality or focus.
  • You communicate clearly and persuasively and thrive in an international, cross-functional environment.
  • You are professionally fluent in Dutch, French and English.
What we offer:
  • A key Medical Affairs position with a direct impact on the development of the Benelux organisation and future product launches.
  • An active role on the local Leadership Team, working closely with the General Manager and international stakeholders.
  • The opportunity to shape medical strategy, scientific positioning and external engagement across the Benelux.
  • An international, science-driven environment where innovation, autonomy, entrepreneurship and collaboration are central.
  • The opportunity to work on innovative medical projects, RWE programmes, clinical development initiatives and a strong KOL network.
  • Personal guidance from Novellas Healthcare throughout the selection process.
