Emma Legal BV is seeking a Legal Innovation Engineer to shape the legal logic, frameworks and prompts behind our AI-powered due diligence workspace. You will collaborate with legal, product and engineering teams, test new AI workflows on real matters, and translate client needs into practical technology.

The role emphasizes hands-on legal analysis, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to work across legal, product and engineering disciplines.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in a legal environment, in private practice or an in-house legal team.
• Combined experience across M&A, corporate law and legal due diligence.
• Fluent English, plus at least one other language.

Responsabilités

• Liaise between legal practice, customers and product team to ensure due diligence is designed around lawyers’ workflows.
• Review and refine legal frameworks, templates, and checklists within Emma Legal’s platform.
• Prompt engineering and evaluation of AI outputs for legal accuracy.
• Contribute product ideas based on real legal workflows and customer needs.
• Create and maintain short product demo videos illustrating Emma Legal’s features and use cases.
• Join calls with lawyers to understand their approach to due diligence and support them.

At Emma Legal®, we are reimagining how Legal Due Diligence (LDD) gets done. Our AI-powered workspace helps corporate lawyers work smarter, faster and more accurately, transforming one of the most critical processes in M&A dealmaking.

We are hiring a Legal Innovation Engineer to help build the legal knowledge and methodology behind our workspace. You will work closely with our legal, product and engineering colleagues, learn how a legal AI product is built, and take on more ownership as you and the company grow.

You do not need to have done this exact job before. You do need solid legal judgement, real curiosity about AI, and a willingness to dig into the detail yourself.

The Role

You will work as a liaison between legal practice, our customers and our product team, and help make sure Emma Legal is genuinely designed around how lawyers run due diligence. This role reports in to our Legal Innovation Counsel.

Key Responsibilities

• Legal content: Help build and maintain the legal methodology behind Emma Legal® — review frameworks, due diligence checklists, templates, issue categories, reporting structures and prompts.
• Working with AI tools: Use assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Copilot in your daily work to draft, test and refine prompts, and review their output for legal accuracy.
• Testing: Try out new workflows and AI capabilities on real matters, spot where they break down, and feed clear findings back to the team.
• Product input: Help translate real legal workflows and customer needs into feature ideas and improvements.
• Product demos: Create and maintain short product demo videos that clearly showcase Emma Legal®’s features, workflows and use cases for customers, prospects and internal team.
• Customer contact: Join calls with lawyers and legal teams to understand their approach to due diligence and support them in getting more out of Emma Legal®.
• Collaboration: Work with our product and engineering teams to turn legal requirements into practical technology.

At its heart, this is a legal engineering role. Much of your time will go into shaping the legal logic behind the product, the frameworks, checklists, issue categories and prompts that guide how Emma Legal reviews a deal. Working with customers supports that side of the job: the time you spend with the lawyers who use the workspace helps inform what you design, and you will have the chance to see your own ideas become features used on live transactions.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a qualified lawyer with hands-on due diligence experience. We will also consider legal engineers, legal operations professionals and others with a strong combination of legal and technology experience.

• 3–5 years of experience in a legal environment, in private practice or an in-house legal team.
• Combined experience across M&A, corporate law and legal due diligence.
• Confident using AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot, and keen to learn how to prompt them well.
• Careful legal analysis and strong attention to detail.
• An ability to break a legal process down into clear, repeatable steps.
• Fluent English, plus at least one other language (ideally more) — French, Dutch, German, Spanish or otherwise.
• Clear communication and comfort speaking directly with customers.
• A hands‑on, curious mindset and a willingness to work across legal, product and engineering.
• Bonus: a lawyer who has already moved into legal tech, legal operations, knowledge management, innovation or product.

You do not need to be a software engineer, and you do not need to write code. You do need to be curious about technology and excited to rethink how legal work is done.
