TERA in Lake County, CA seeks Fire & Fuels Mentors to train and lead intertribal crews during the 2026-27 Lake Cal-TREX season. Positions are temporary, field-based, with an on-site role at our Ecocultural Fire & Stewardship Center in Upper Lake.

The work spans September 2026 through June 2027 with NWCG training included. Mentors will teach fuels reduction, burn unit prep and burn operations, taking leadership roles as needed and coordinating with the Stewardship & Communications Director, Fuels

Qualifications

• 3+ years experience in wildland fire, with minimum 60 operational days on the fireline.
• Current NWCG qualification FFT1 or higher and FAL3 or higher.
• 2+ years hands-on work in fuels reduction and/or ecocultural stewardship.
• 2+ years experience leading a team in fire and fuels work.
• Current First Aid and CPR certification (onboarding can renew).

Responsabilités

• Provide hands-on training and mentorship to TERA crews and participants.
• Lead burn operations and fuels reduction activities with safety and ecological goals.
• Coordinate with Stewardship & Communications Director and Fuels Captain.
• Serve in leadership roles appropriate to skill level (e.g., squad lead, burn lead).
