The Nature Conservancy in Minnesota seeks two Burn Crew Members for the Fire in the Forest program, based at Lake Alexander Preserve in Cushing. This seasonal, full-time on-site role runs Sept 12 to Oct 31, 2026, with shared housing provided at no cost to the employee to maximize field effectiveness.

Pay is $18.00–$19.05 per hour, depending on experience. Candidates may need RXCM/FFT2 qualifications or complete training during onboarding; a valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to obtain RXCM or FFT2 qualifications, including ICS intro and fire behavior training.
• Must meet physical fitness standards per local Fire Manager and Fire Management Manual.
• Experience operating various equipment; licenses/certifications (First Aid/CPR) may be required.

Responsabilités

• Ignition, holding, mop-up, and post-burn patrol on prescribed burns.
• Burn unit preparation and equipment maintenance.
• Timber stand improvement and invasive species control as needed.
• Engage with partners and build professional networks in wildland fire community.
