Job summary

Vivid Resourcing Ltd in Brecht, Belgium, is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop and test software for embedded hardware. The role covers the full lifecycle from requirements through to release, collaborating with hardware, systems and test teams to ensure quality and performance.

The successful candidate will write reliable code for resource-constrained devices, bring up new hardware platforms and ensure software meets product standards.

Qualifications

• Degree in electronics, computer science, software engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience developing embedded software, with strong skills in C and C++.
• Experience working with microcontrollers or embedded processors and their peripherals.
• Understanding of communication protocols such as SPI, I2C, UART, CAN or Ethernet.
• Experience debugging at hardware and software level, including the use of standard lab equipment.
• Familiarity with real-time operating systems or embedded Linux.
• Experience with version control, code review and structured software development processes.
• Ability to read schematics and work comfortably alongside hardware engineers.
• Clear written and spoken communication in English.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain embedded software for electronic devices and systems.
• Write, review and debug code in C and C++ for microcontroller and embedded processor platforms.
• Develop and integrate device drivers, board support packages and communication interfaces.
• Support hardware bring-up and work with hardware engineers to resolve integration issues.
• Create and run unit, integration and system-level tests, and analyse results.
• Debug hardware and software issues using oscilloscopes, logic analysers and debuggers.
• Contribute to software requirements, architecture and design documentation.
• Use version control, code reviews and continuous integration to maintain software quality.
• Work with systems, hardware and test colleagues to deliver features and releases on schedule.
• Support product releases, field issues and ongoing software improvements.
