Job description

As part of a major offshore wind infrastructure project, we are looking for an experienced Corrosion & Coating QC Inspector to support quality control and manufacturing surveillance activities across fabrication yards in Belgium and the Netherlands.

The project involves the construction of three 750 MW Offshore Substations (OSS). The assignment will focus primarily on coating and corrosion quality activities during the fabrication, pre-assembly and assembly phases of the offshore structures.

Working closely with the Site Quality Manager, you will act as the main quality focal point for corrosion, painting and coating activities at fabrication yards and subcontractor facilities.

You will oversee coating inspection activities, ensure compliance with approved quality plans, ITPs and procedures, and support the resolution of coating and corrosion-related issues throughout fabrication.

The assignment will be mainly based across fabrication yards in Belgium, with regular visits to satellite sites and potential travel to facilities in the Netherlands and wider Benelux region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and witness coating and painting inspection activities throughout fabrication.
  • Verify surface preparation and atmospheric conditions prior to painting operations.
  • Witness wet and dry film thickness checks and other required coating inspections.
  • Verify correct coating application, colour coding and painting activities.
  • Review the storage, certification and traceability of coating materials and consumables.
  • Verify equipment and instrumentation calibration certificates.
  • Ensure tests, controls and inspections are performed in accordance with approved Master ITPs, ITPs and procedures.
  • Review inspection reports and ensure all required quality records are properly collected and documented.
  • Verify the qualifications of inspection personnel and applicable work procedures.
  • Monitor NCR management and ensure corrective actions are identified and implemented effectively.
  • Follow up findings and observations raised during site walkthroughs and inspections through to closure.
  • Actively contribute to identifying, investigating and resolving corrosion and coating-related issues.
  • Support the Site Quality Manager in ensuring compliance with the project Quality Assurance Plan and overall quality requirements.
  • FROSIO Level III certification is required.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in similar coating / painting inspection activities, ideally within an overall background of approximately 8 to 15 years.
  • Strong experience in Quality Control within large-scale industrial, EPC/EPCI, offshore, energy, marine or heavy fabrication environments.
  • Strong knowledge of coating and painting standards, including ISO 8501, ISO 8502, ISO 8503, ISO 8504, ISO 1461, ISO 4624, ISO 12944, ISO 14713, ISO 19840, ISO 29601 and NORSOK M-501.
  • Experience working with EPC contractors, fabrication yards and Quality Management Systems.
  • Good understanding of ITPs, inspection documentation, NCRs and corrective action processes.
  • Ability to work effectively with contractors and challenge quality issues in a constructive manner.
  • Fluent English, both written and spoken.
  • Dutch or Flemish is highly appreciated due to the location of the fabrication activities.
  • French is considered an advantage.
Engagement Conditions
  • Long-term assignment, initially planned for 12 months, with potential successive extensions depending on project requirements.
  • Main fabrication locations in Belgium, including the Antwerp, Arendonk and Balen areas.
  • Regular travel to satellite fabrication yards and subcontractor facilities may be required, particularly within Belgium and the Netherlands.
  • Site-based position requiring compliance with fabrication yard HSE requirements and the use of appropriate PPE.
  • Potential long-term project continuity, with the overall programme currently extending through 2030.

If you are an experienced FROSIO Level III Coating Inspector and would like to contribute to a major offshore energy infrastructure project in Belgium, we would be delighted to hear from you.
