Sander Finance seeks a Controller with a strong background in accounting to join an upscale hotel in Brussels. You will supervise the accounting team, manage monthly and annual closings, and partner with department heads to explain results and drive improvements.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will ensure internal controls, VAT compliance, and accurate financial reporting, while contributing to budgets and forecasts for multiple revenue streams in a global hospitality setting.

Qualifications

• Degree in accounting or finance.
• Seven to eight years of finance experience in relevant areas.
• Experience in hotel/hospitality sector is essential.
• Solid understanding of closing processes and VAT in Belgium.

Responsibilities

• Supervise accounting team and organize priorities for operational managers to understand financial performance.
• Own monthly and annual closings, balance sheet reconciliations and financial statements with accurate revenue recognition and cash entries.
• Contribute to budgets and forecasts; analyze revenue, cost and profitability variances and monitor cash flow.
• Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with Belgian accounting and tax requirements; coordinate audits and follow up on improvements.
• Explain financial results to non-finance colleagues; support Director of Finance and step in during their absence; collaborate with department heads across the hotel.

Job description

Sander Finance is looking for an Controller with a strong background in accounting to join an upscale hotel in Brussels. Our partner welcomes an international clientele and combines accommodation, dining and events, giving you exposure to several revenue streams and their day-to-day financial performance.

Working directly with the Director of Finance, you will combine accounting oversight, performance analysis and team supervision. You will work closely with department heads to explain financial results and identify practical actions, while also stepping in for the Director of Finance during their absence and supporting them on the daily.

• Supervise and support the accounting team, organise priorities and help operational managers understand their department’s financial performance.
• Take ownership of monthly and annual closings, balance sheet reconciliations and financial statements, ensuring accurate revenue recognition, cash reconciliation and accounting entries.
• Contribute to budgets and forecasts, analyse revenue, cost and profitability variances, and monitor cash flow and capital expenditure.
• Maintain effective internal controls and compliance with Belgian accounting and tax requirements, coordinate audits and follow up on improvements.
• You hold a degree in accounting or finance and bring around seven to eight years of finance experience, gained in accounts receivable, accounts payable, general accounting, cost control, controlling or audit. Experience in the hotel sector is essential.
• You have a solid understanding of closing processes, Belgian accounting standards and VAT, alongside advanced Excel skills and proficiency in Opera. You can supervise a team while remaining involved in day-to-day financial matters.
• You are fluent in English ; Dutch and French are assets. Organised and accurate, you can explain financial information to non-finance colleagues and meet tight deadlines.
