Job summary

Qargo seeks an AI Software Engineer – MCP & Agents to build MCP tools and agent infrastructure for our cloud-based TMS platform in Ghent. You’ll expand agent tooling, interact with customer success, and scale AI components for reliability and performance.

You will work across R&D, rapid prototyping, and productionisation of AI features, shaping Qargo’s long-term AI strategy while collaborating with internal teams to translate logistics challenges into practical AI solutions.

Qualifications

• Experience in software engineering or AI roles.
• Strong programming skills, preferably Python or backend languages.
• Experience designing MCP interfaces.
• Experience deploying AI/ML systems in production is a plus.
• Ability to iterate quickly and validate assumptions.
• Clear communication and collaboration with engineers, product managers, and domain experts.

Qargo is a cloud-based (SaaS) Transport Management Platform. We are a scale-up based in London and Ghent (Belgium), rapidly expanding across Europe. The platform is an ‘all-in-one system’, handling everything from initial order entry to final invoicing. It optimises planning and has many built-in AI features to automate routine manual tasks and help spot potential issues. Qargo is designed to help modern logistics operations run more efficiently, while increasing profitability and sustainability.

We’re looking for an AI Software Engineer – MCP & Agents to join our team in Ghent. You’ll build the MCP tools and agent infrastructure that make Qargo agent-ready, for our customers and for our own teams. About the Role

We are rapidly iterating to make the Qargo platform agent-ready for both end users and internal workflows. This includes building MCP tools that enable agents to interact intuitively with our extensive product. In this role, you will need to understand users’ goals and the tools their agents need to achieve them.

We also continue to integrate AI into our core product to save transport companies time and prevent planning and administrative errors.

• You will help make the Qargo platform agent-ready by expanding the MCP toolset that agents use to interact with our core TMS product.

• You will collaborate closely with internal customer success teams to understand their workflows and provide the right tools for agents to support them.

• You will help develop our internal agent infrastructure.

• You will collaborate closely with engineering and product teams to turn real logistics challenges into practical AI solutions.

• You will help scale, monitor, and improve our AI components to ensure reliability, efficiency, and performance.

• You will work across research, rapid prototyping, and productionisation of AI features.

• You will contribute to shaping Qargo’s long-term AI strategy and roadmap.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and improve agentic workflows to improve the amount of work AI agents can do in our environment.

• Monitor and maintain AI systems running in production, optimising cost, latency, and reliability.

• Bring AI prototypes to production, ensuring quality, scalability, and observability.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define clear AI workflows (e.g., onboarding setup automation, system configuration, …).

• Develop and enhance AI-driven features such as document extraction, matching flows, quality checks, chatbots, and automated bookings.

• Stay up to date with advancements in AI and identify opportunities to improve the product.

Skills & Experience

• Experience in software engineering, applied AI, or similar technical roles.

• Strong programming skills (preferably Python and/or modern backend languages).

• Experience with designing MCP interfaces

• Experience with AI agent toolchains and frameworks such as LangChain/LangGraph, AgentConnect, FastMCP

• Experience deploying and operating AI/ML systems in a production environment is a plus

• Ability to experiment quickly, iterate fast, and validate assumptions.

• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment.

• Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate with engineers, product managers, and domain experts.

• Experience with document processing, NLP, or conversational AI is a plus.
