Job summary

Sims Limited Bathurst is seeking an on-site Yard Operations Manager to lead a close-knit team and ensure safe, efficient, and profitable yard operations. You’ll coach frontline staff, coordinate transport of scrap metal, and maintain strong customer relationships while controlling costs.

In this hands-on role, you’ll balance people leadership with practical problem-solving, drive continuous improvement, and uphold SHEQ standards in a dynamic recycling environment.

The Opportunity

As our Yard Operations Manager, you'll be responsible for leading a close-knit team and ensuring the site runs safely, efficiently, and profitably every day.

You'll be the go-to person on site, balancing people leadership, operational performance, customer relationships, safety, and continuous improvement.

This is a role for someone who is equally comfortable coaching team members, coordinating transport logistics, managing stakeholders, and rolling up their sleeves when needed.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading and motivating a small operational team to deliver outstanding results
• Coordinating the safe and efficient processing and transport of scrap metal
• Ensuring equipment, people, and resources are utilised effectively
• Building strong relationships with customers, suppliers, contractors, and transport providers
• Driving a strong safety-first culture and ensuring compliance with all SHEQ requirements
• Managing stock levels, maintenance schedules, and operational costs
• Identifying opportunities to improve productivity, efficiency, and site performance
• Creating a positive, accountable, and high-performing team environment
