Job summary

Buildability Group is seeking a Workshop Supervisor for their Smithfield workshop in Sydney. You will lead boilermakers and tradespeople, manage fabrication schedules and ensure every piece leaving the workshop is built to spec and ready for site.

This hands-on leadership role requires reading structural drawings, overseeing welding quality and maintaining WHS standards, with a handover period alongside the current Foreman before retirement. Based full-time at Smithfield.

Qualifications

• Trade-qualified Boilermaker (essential)
• Experience in structural steel fabrication, ideally within Tier 2 construction
• Prior experience supervising or leading a workshop team
• Strong ability to read structural and shop drawings
• Solid understanding of welding standards, quality control and workshop safety requirements
• Well organised, with the ability to manage competing fabrication deadlines
• Current White Card

• Reading and working from structural drawings and shop details to plan fabrication sequencing
• Managing workshop scheduling to hit fabrication deadlines aligned with site delivery programs

• Liaising with project managers and site teams on fabrication progress, delivery timing and any design/documentation queries
• Managing materials, consumables and equipment ordering for the workshop

We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established structural steel company delivering Tier 2 new build construction projects across Sydney's CBD and western suburbs. With a strong pipeline of work ahead, they're looking for an experienced Workshop Supervisor to lead their Smithfield workshop full-time, on an ongoing basis.

About the role

You’ll run the day-to-day floor of a busy structural steel workshop — supervising a team of boilermakers and tradespeople, managing fabrication schedules, and ensuring every piece leaving the workshop is built to spec and ready for site. This is a hands‑on leadership role: you’ll need to be across the tools yourself as much as you’re managing the team around you.

What you’ll be doing
