Job summary

You will supervise boilermakers, welders and fabricators, read structural shop drawings, manage schedules, maintain quality and safety standards, and coordinate with project managers and site teams.

This full-time, permanent role offers a long-standing project pipeline and a hands-on leadership

Qualifications

• Trade-qualified Boilermaker
• Experience in structural steel fabrication

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate workshop staff, including boilermakers, welders and fabricators
• Read and plan fabrication sequencing from structural drawings
• Manage workshop scheduling to hit fabrication deadlines aligned with site delivery programs
• Maintain quality control across welding, fabrication and finishing to Australian Standards
• Oversee workshop WHS, housekeeping and equipment maintenance
• Liaise with project managers and site teams on fabrication progress and delivery timing
• Manage materials, consumables and equipment ordering for the workshop

Workshop Supervisor (Boilermaker) - Structural Steel
We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established structural steel company delivering Tier 2 new build construction projects across Sydney's CBD and western suburbs. With a strong pipeline of work ahead, they're looking for an experienced Workshop Supervisor to lead their Smithfield workshop full-time, on an ongoing basis.
About the role You'll run the day-to-day floor of a busy structural steel workshop - supervising a team of boilermakers and tradespeople, managing fabrication schedules, and ensuring every piece leaving the workshop is built to spec and ready for site. This is a hands-on leadership role: you'll need to be across the tools yourself as much as you're managing the team around you.
What you'll be doing

• Supervising and coordinating workshop staff, including boilermakers, welders and fabricators
• Reading and working from structural drawings and shop details to plan fabrication sequencing
• Managing workshop scheduling to hit fabrication deadlines aligned with site delivery programs
• Maintaining quality control across welding, fabrication and finishing to relevant Australian Standards
• Overseeing workshop WHS, housekeeping and equipment maintenance
• Liaising with project managers and site teams on fabrication progress, delivery timing and any design/documentation queries
• Managing materials, consumables and equipment ordering for the workshop

What we’re looking for

• Trade-qualified Boilermaker (essential)
• Proven experience in structural steel fabrication, ideally within Tier 2 construction or similar commercial building projects
• Prior experience supervising or leading a workshop team
• Strong ability to read structural and shop drawings
• Solid understanding of welding standards, quality control and workshop safety requirements
• Well organised, with the ability to manage competing fabrication deadlines
• Current White Card
