Job summary

Coburg Structural Steel in Coburg North VIC is seeking an experienced Boilermaker for a full-time, hands-on role installing, assembling and welding structural steel on commercial and residential projects. You will work with supervisors, crane crews and other trades to deliver quality work safely on site.

The role requires trade qualification, 3–5 years in structural steel installation, stick welding, and the ability to read drawings.

Qualifications

• Trade-qualified boilermaker with hands-on steel fabrication experience.
• Minimum 3–5 years in structural steel installation on-site.
• Proven ability to read and interpret structural/shop drawings.
• Competent stick welding and safe on-site execution.

Responsibilities

• Install and erect structural steel including columns, beams, lintels and portal frames.
• Lead small crews on site while performing fabrication and welding tasks.
• Read and interpret drawings to plan installations and ensure accuracy.
• Perform welding, bolting, grinding, fit-up and steel assembly safely.
• Assist with crane lifts, dogging, rigging and other complex site tasks.
• Carry out welding modifications and site measurements efficiently.
• Operate hand and power tools and welding equipment safely according to site protocols.
• Work at heights using EWPs, scaffolding, or harness systems.
• Coordinate with fabrication and production teams for timely installation.
• Maintain high workmanship and site housekeeping standards.
• Hold a current White Card and follow all safety procedures.
• Provide feedback to management on progress and site issues.

Coburg Structural Steel – Coburg North VIC

We are seeking an experienced Boilermaker to join our growing business in a full-time role based in Coburg. This is a hands‑on position involving the installation, assembly, modification and welding of structural steel across a variety of commercial and residential construction projects.

You will work alongside experienced supervisors, crane crews and other trades as part of a collaborative site team, playing a key role in delivering quality projects safely and efficiently.

This role is ideal for someone who takes pride in their workmanship, enjoys working on‑site, and wants to be part of a reliable and professional steel installation company.

Australian citizenship is required for this position.

Key Responsibilities

1. Install and erect structural steel including columns, beams, lintels, portal frames, stairs, platforms, bracing, ties & purlins to project specifications. Lead small crews onsite while remaining hands‑on with fabrication and welding tasks.
2. Accurately read and interpret structural, shop and technical drawings to plan and execute installations
3. Perform on‑site welding, bolting, grinding, fit‑up work, and steel assembly safely and with precision
4. Assist with crane lifts, dogging, rigging operations, and other complex site tasks
5. Carry out welding modifications, troubleshooting, site measure and boilermaker works efficiently on site
6. Safely operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment and site machinery, maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols
7. Work confidently at heights using EWPs, scaffolding, or harness systems
8. Coordinate closely with fabrication and production teams to ensure timely delivery and smooth installation of steel components
9. Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, and site housekeeping
10. Hold a current White Card and consistently follow all site safety procedures
11. Provide constructive feedback to continuously improve installation processes and site efficiency
12. Provide regular feedback to management on installation progress, site issues and outcomes

What we're looking for

1. Trade‑qualified Boilermaker, Fabricator, or equivalent hands‑on experience in steel fabrication, carpentry, or construction (essential)
2. A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in structural steel installation is required
3. Proven track record in on‑site structural steel installation and assembly
4. Competent in stick welding with solid on‑site experience
5. Skilled in reading and interpreting construction, structural shop drawings to plan and execute installations accurately
6. Strong problem‑solving and critical thinking skills, with a focus on delivering high‑quality, precise workmanship
7. Deep understanding of site safety procedures and a commitment to safe work practices at all times
8. Comfortable working at heights and physically capable of handling demanding site work using EWPs, scaffolding, harnesses, and other relevant equipment
9. Excellent communication and teamwork skills, able to coordinate effectively with supervisors, crane crews, trades, and other stakeholders
10. Current White Card is mandatory (Construction Induction), Working at Heights, EWP, Dogging, or Rigging is highly regarded.
