Job summary

Superior Machinery Maintenance operates a busy vehicle maintenance workshop in the Mt Isa region. We are seeking an experienced Workshop / Service Manager to own day-to-day operations, lead a team of technicians and apprentices, plan work, and maintain high workshop standards.

You will be responsible for staff guidance, training, performance reviews, customer communications, and ensuring work is completed accurately and efficiently while controlling costs.

Qualifications

• Experience with cars and trucks in a busy workshop environment.
• Ability to lead and develop technicians and apprentices.
• Highly organised with multi-job management capability.
• Strong communication with customers and workshop staff.
• Confident decision-maker and able to hold staff accountable.
• Aware of labour efficiency, parts costs and job profitability.

• Prior experience as Workshop Manager or similar role is highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Manage and support approximately 10 technicians including apprentices.
• Plan and allocate workshop jobs daily; monitor workloads and efficiency.
• Conduct regular toolbox meetings with the team.
• Ensure technicians stay updated with required manufacturer and brand training.
• Perform staff performance reviews and provide feedback.
• Check completed vehicles to ensure repairs meet standards.
• Provide customers with regular updates on vehicle progress.
• Monitor costs vs. quoted work and obtain approval for overruns.
• Oversee spare parts function and conduct regular stocktakes.

Superior Machinery Maintenance is looking for an experienced Workshop / Service Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day operation of our busy vehicle maintenance workshop in the Mt Isa region. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who understands cars and trucks, knows how a productive workshop should operate, and has the confidence to manage a team of approximately 10 technicians including apprentices. You will lead people, plan work, maintain high standards, communicate with customers and make sure the workshop runs efficiently and professionally.

Key responsibilities

• Managing and supporting approximately 10 technicians including apprentices
• Planning and allocating workshop jobs on a daily basisMonitoring workloads, job progress and technician efficiency
• Conducting regular toolbox meetings
• Ensuring technicians remain up to date with required manufacturer and brand training modules
• Carrying out regular staff performance reviews and providing constructive feedback
• Checking completed vehicles to ensure repairs have been carried out correctly and workmanship meets standards
• Providing customers with regular updates on the progress of their vehicle
• Monitoring quoted costs against actual repairs and contacting customers before proceeding with work that will exceed an approved quote
• Overseeing the operation of the spare parts function including ensuring parts and stock are managed correctly and conducting regular stocktakes
