Job summary

Sadleirs in Perth is seeking a hands-on Workshop Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our Kewdale workshop, directing a skilled team and supervising maintenance and repairs across a diverse fleet.

You'll set priorities, coordinate preventative maintenance, ensure safety and compliance, and work with internal teams and external service providers to keep equipment available for operations. Strong leadership and a proactive approach are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in a related industry and ability to lead a team in a busy workshop.
• Strong communication and customer service skills are essential.
• Knowledge of vehicle maintenance systems is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day running of the Perth workshop and set priorities to meet operational demand.
• Oversee maintenance and repairs across fleet including prime movers, trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
• Coordinate preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs.
• Ensure quality assurance of maintenance work and verify completed tasks.
• Maintain maintenance compliance documentation and asset registers.
• Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to maximise equipment availability.
• Coordinate third-party service providers for maintenance tasks.
• Manage workshop standards, tooling, and engineering hygiene in line with best practice.
• Support after-hours breakdowns and on-road issues as required.
• Act as the key internal contact for maintenance communication and escalation.

The Role: Workshop Manager

As Workshop Manager, you’ll take the lead on the day-to-day running of our Kewdale workshop, overseeing a skilled team and the maintenance and repair of our diverse fleet and equipment.

You’ll be responsible for setting workshop priorities, coordinating preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard. You’ll also work closely with internal teams and external service providers to keep our fleet well maintained and ready to support our operations.

This is a hands‑on leadership role for someone who enjoys taking ownership, supporting their team and maintaining high standards across safety, compliance and workshop performance.

Your responsibilities will include:

Leading the day-to-day running of the Perth workshop and setting priorities to meet operational demand.

Overseeing maintenance and repairs across prime movers, rigid trucks, trailers, dollies, container forklifts, shipping containers, rail infrastructure, light vehicles and mobile plant.

Approving and overseeing preventative maintenance strategies and breakdown response for fleet and workshop equipment.

Ensuring quality assurance of maintenance and repair work, including verification of completed works.

Maintaining maintenance compliance documentation, asset registers and audit readiness.

Building strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to maximise equipment availability.

Coordinating third‑party service providers, including electrical, tyre, refrigeration and mechanical contractors.

Managing workshop standards, tooling and engineering hygiene in line with industry best practice.

Working within the workshop budget and supporting after‑hours breakdowns and on‑road issues when required.

Acting as the key internal contact for maintenance‑related communication and escalation.

What you’ll need:

HR/MC licence preferred, with a minimum C Class licence.

Knowledge of vehicle maintenance systems and Main Roads accreditation.

At least 3 years’ experience in a related industry.

Strong teamwork, communication and customer service skills.

The ability to build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

The ability to work autonomously, lead a team and stay motivated in a busy operational environment.

Formal supervisory or management training is preferred.
