Job summary

Coastal Transport Services – Warnervale NSW is seeking an experienced Workshop Manager to lead a busy workshop and drive growth across Coastal Truck Services. This hands-on leadership role oversees workflow, staffing and performance while maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety.

You will guide a team of mechanics, supported by a Service Advisor and Accounts Administrator, ensuring efficient bookings, priorities and service delivery to minimise downtime and maximise productivity.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification in Heavy Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience as a Workshop Manager, Workshop Supervisor or similar leadership role within the heavy vehicle industry is highly regarded.
• Strong technical knowledge across servicing, repair and maintenance of trucks, trailers and heavy vehicle equipment.
• Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to motivate, mentor and develop a high-performing workshop team.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workflow, competing priorities and vehicle turnaround times.
• Commercial awareness with an understanding of workshop productivity, labour utilisation, costs and financial performance.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal teams.
• Sound understanding of NHVR requirements, WHS, heavy vehicle compliance and maintenance standards.
• Confidence using workshop management systems and technology.
• A practical, solutions-focused approach with a strong focus on quality, efficiency and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the day-to-day operations of the workshop, including workflow, scheduling, staffing and overall workshop performance.
• Drive workshop productivity and efficiency, monitoring labour utilisation, job progress, turnaround times and financial performance.
• Ensure all vehicle servicing, repairs and inspections are completed efficiently and to a high standard, in line with NHVR heavy vehicle inspection and maintenance requirements.
• Lead, mentor and support workshop mechanics and apprentices, providing hands-on technical guidance when required.
• Work closely with the Service Advisor to coordinate workshop bookings, job priorities, customer requirements and service delivery.
• Oversee parts, equipment and workshop resources to ensure jobs are completed efficiently and minimise vehicle downtime.
• Maintain high standards of WHS, workshop safety, presentation and compliance across all operations.
• Support the development and implementation of workshop procedures and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers and key stakeholders.
• Collaborate with the broader Coastal Group team to identify opportunities for improved efficiencies, cost management and continued business growth.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Workshop Manager to lead our busy workshop and play a key role in the continued growth of Coastal Truck Services.
This is a hands‑on leadership role with responsibility for the overall performance of the workshop- leading the team, managing workflow and resources, maintaining high standards of workmanship and safety, and driving productivity and efficiency across all operations.

You’ll be supported by dedicated Service Advisor and Accounts Administrator, who will assist with customer communication, bookings, service coordination and administration, allowing you to focus on leading and supporting your team and keeping workshop operations running effectively.
