Job summary

Sadleirs is seeking a Freight Operations Trainee to join the Global Logistics team in Australia. You'll learn freight forwarding, transport operations, and build practical skills with on-the-job training and mentorship.

No prior freight experience is required; we provide formal training, a full-time permanent role, and a clear path to specialist or leadership opportunities within a supportive, safety-focused environment.

Qualifications

• A full current driver's licence is required.
• Forklift licence (HRWL) or willingness to obtain one is required.
• Experience in an office environment is advantageous but not essential.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Customer service orientation and ability to build relationships with stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently after training.

Responsibilities

• Collect and process freight forwarding documentation and assist with coordinating shipment movements.
• Assist with prompt and timely dispatch of consignments.
• Monitor and track consignments and inform stakeholders of progress.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to maintain positive relationships.
• Register jobs and maintain accurate information across company systems.
• Collate and process freight documentation accurately and on time.
• Assist with quotations for worldwide shipments.
• Liaise with overseas agents, airlines and shipping lines regarding rates and schedules.
• Process and facilitate client invoicing.
• Complete job files and maintain documentation.

About the Sadleirs Global Logistics Team

Sadleirs Global Logistics (SGL) is our international freight forwarding and customs brokerage division, supporting Australian and overseas businesses with freight movements across global supply chains.

The SGL team is built on experience, accountability, and strong relationships. We work closely with our customers, taking ownership of their logistics and delivering outcomes that require care, responsiveness, and follow-through.

The Role: Freight Operations Trainee

As a Freight Operations Trainee, this is a great opportunity to kick-start your career in freight and logistics. You'll learn the ropes of freight forwarding and transport operations while building practical skills and industry experience along the way.

We're looking for someone who is eager to learn, has a positive can-do attitude and is ready to get involved. No previous freight experience is required - you'll receive on-the-job training and support from an experienced mentor while completing your formal training and qualification.

Employment type: Full-time, Permanent

Roster: Monday - Friday

Your responsibilities will include:

Collecting and processing freight forwarding documentation and assisting with coordinating shipment movements

Assisting with the prompt and timely dispatch of consignments

Monitoring and tracking consignments and keeping relevant stakeholders informed of progress

Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to build positive working relationships

Registering jobs and maintaining accurate information across company systems and databases

Collating and processing freight documentation accurately and on time

Assisting with quotations for worldwide shipments

Liaising with overseas agents, airlines and shipping lines regarding rates, schedules and services

Processing and facilitating client invoicing

Completing job files and ensuring all relevant documentation is organised and maintained

Supporting the wider operations team to achieve service levels and maintain strong communication

Operating a forklift to safely load, unload and move stock

What you'll need:

A full current driver's licence

A forklift licence (HRWL), or willingness to obtain one

Experience working in an office environment would be advantageous, but is not essential

Confidence using Microsoft Office software

Strong teamwork and communication skills

Good customer service skills and a customer-focused attitude

The ability to develop positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders

A proactive and positive attitude

The ability to work independently once the required training has been completed
