Uniform Safety Signs Pty Ltd in Thomastown VIC is seeking a hands-on Fabrication Operator to join our busy workshop. You will operate fabrication equipment, read drawings, and help ensure quality and safety across the production line.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret drawings, tolerances and material specs.
• Experience in a fabrication workshop or fast-paced production.
• Follow procedures and write work instructions.

Responsibilities

• Operate fabrication equipment including drop saw, CNC, bender, brake press, riveting, laminating, grinding, and engraving.
• Read technical drawings and review sign designs before fabrication begins.
• Produce work to quality standards and perform in-process checks.
• Collaborate with a small team and assist across tasks as needed.
• Monitor raw materials and flag replenishment needs with the Supply Chain Team Lead.
• Complete production records and shift reports.
• Champion safety through toolbox talks, hazard reporting, PPE compliance and 3S housekeeping.

Key responsibilities

• Operating fabrication equipment including drop saw, CNC machining, bender, brake press, Henrob riveting, laminating, grinding, and engraving


• Reading and interpreting technical drawings and reviewing sign design files for accuracy before fabrication begins


• Producing work to quality standards — conducting in-process checks and ensuring product meets relevant sign fabrication standards


• Working collaboratively across a small team where helping out across tasks is part of the culture


• Monitoring raw material levels and flagging replenishment needs with the Supply Chain Team Lead


• Completing production records, shift reports, and operator-level maintenance


• Championing safety — toolbox talks, hazard reporting, PPE compliance, and 3S housekeeping

About you

• 3+ years' experience in a fabrication workshop or fast-paced manufacturing/production environment


• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret technical drawings — dimensions, tolerances, and material specifications


• Ability to follow and write procedures and work instructions


• Strong numeracy and literacy for production documentation


• A genuine commitment to quality, safety, and showing up reliably


• Physical capacity for manual handling (lifting up to 20 kg, standing for extended periods, repetitive tasks)


• Full Australian working rights


• Sign manufacturing or sheet metal trade background (bonus)


• CNC operations experience, including nesting (bonus)


• Certificate III in Engineering (Fabrication Trade) or a comparable trade (bonus)
