Job description

An established Australian steel furniture manufacturer in Altona North is seeking an experienced Working Foreman to join our team.

Lead by example , take responsibility for the day-to-day running of our workshop

Attractive working hours with an early finish on Fridays.

This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, hands-on tradesperson to step into a key leadership role and take over from our long-serving Foreman, who is retiring.

About the role

You will coordinate the day-to-day running of the workshop while remaining actively involved in steel fabrication, assembly and manufacturing.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating daily workshop activities and allocating jobs.
  • Managing workflow, priorities and production schedules.
  • Reading CAD drawings and job cards.
  • Ensuring quality, specifications and tolerances are met.
  • Supporting and guiding workshop employees.
  • Monitoring materials, equipment and production requirements.
  • Promoting a safe and productive workplace.
  • Communicating production requirements to management.
  • Learning to operate our laser tube cutting machine.

No previous laser tube cutting experience is required - full training will be provided.

About you
  • You will ideally have experience in steel fabrication, manufacturing or a related trade, along with:
  • The ability to read and interpret CAD drawings and job cards.
  • Strong fabrication and workshop knowledge.
  • Previous Leading Hand or Foreman experience, or the confidence to step into leadership.
  • A hands-on, mechanically minded approach.
  • Pride in quality workmanship and attention to detail.
  • Good communication, organisation and computer skills.
  • A reliable attitude and commitment to workplace safety.

Hours

Monday to Thursday, 7:30am-4:00pm; Friday, 7:30am-1:30pm.
Expected overtime is a minimum of five hours per week, with additional overtime available when required.

Remuneration will be based on experience and suitability.
