We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Foreman to lead our Brisbane workshop team with potential occasional travel to project sites or away for work. This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to an experienced tradesperson with a strong background in structural steel fabrication, tank building, pipe fitting, and welding who enjoys mentoring others and creating a positive team.
More than just managing workshop operations, you'll play a key role in developing the next generation of tradespeople through training, coaching, and hands‑on support.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise day-to-day workshop activities.
- Train, mentor, and develop apprentices in welding and fabrication techniques.
- Upskill workshop personnel to improve capability, productivity, and quality.
- Ensure all fabrication and welding work is completed to required specifications and standards.
- Interpret drawings and welding procedures.
- Monitor workmanship and provide technical guidance to workshop staff.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture.
- Coordinate workflow and ensure projects are delivered on time.
Skills & Experience Required
- Hold relevant trade Diploma, Certificate or background; comparable to the Australian standard with 3 years relevant full-time trade experience
- In addition, at least 5 years' experience in a leadership or similar role
- Extensive experience in structural steel fabrication and tank construction.
- Strong pipe fitting and welding experience, including weld inspection knowledge.
- Excellent understanding of welding procedures, welding standards, and quality requirements.
- Proven experience leading workshop teams or supervising tradespeople.
- Demonstrated ability to teach, train, and mentor apprentices and tradesmen.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety.
