Job summary

FGI Developments is seeking an experienced and proactive Health, Safety & Environment Advisor to join our team in Cairns, QLD. The role focuses on safeguarding the health, safety and wellbeing of our workforce on construction sites and improving safety culture across operations.

Responsibilities include developing and monitoring HSE policies, conducting site inspections, delivering inductions and training, investigating incidents and maintaining documentation to drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Must have Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a WHSE Officer or similar in construction.
• Strong understanding of WHS legislation, regulations and best practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to travel to project sites across all states of Australia.
• Be prepared to undertake a Federal Police Check.

This full-time role is based in Cairns, QLD and will be responsible for ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees on construction sites. As a key member of our growing company, you will have the opportunity to make a direct impact on the safety culture and practices across our operations.

Key responsibilities

Developing, implementing and monitoring health, safety and environmental policies, procedures and management systems to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards

Conducting regular site inspections and audits in all states of operations to identify and address potential hazards and risks

Providing safety inductions, training and ongoing support to all site personnel

Investigating incidents and near misses, and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence

Maintaining detailed records and documentation to support continuous improvement of safety performance

Collaborating with project managers, supervisors and workers to foster a positive safety culture and encourage safe behaviour

Representing the company at relevant safety meetings, forums and industry events

About you

Must hold a minimum of Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety

Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a WHSE Officer or similar role in the construction industry

Demonstrated understanding of relevant work health and safety legislation, regulations and best practices

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and mitigate risks

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with all stakeholders

Proactive and solutions-focused approach to continuous improvement

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Hold a current driver's licence and be willing to travel to project sites in all states of Australia as required

Be willing to undertake a Federal Police Check
