Job summary

The Whitsunday Regional Council is seeking a Water and Sewerage Network Operations Worker to support construction, maintenance, inspection and repair of water and sewer infrastructure across the Whitsunday region.

Key duties include maintaining mains and hydrants, responding to emergencies, reading maps and work orders, and ensuring environmental and public health compliance. A White Card, low voltage and confined space certs are preferred, plus willingness to obtain additional certificates.

Qualifications

• Experience in maintenance, repair, and inspection of water and sewerage infrastructure.
• Ability to read maps, plans and work orders.
• Strong safety awareness and compliance with WHS standards.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, repair and install water mains, sewer lines, valves, hydrants and related assets.
• Respond to emergencies like water main breaks and sewer overflows.
• Conduct inspections using diagnostic tools and perform trenching and reinstatement work.
• Operate pumps and machinery such as jetting trucks and backhoes.
• Document work performed and asset conditions clearly and accurately.
• Ensure compliance with environmental, safety and public health standards.
• Engage professionally with supervisors, contractors and community.
