Job summary

Banana Shire Council is seeking a Plumbing/Municipal Technician to support the council's water supply and sewerage infrastructure. You will operate and maintain reticulation schemes, assist with project planning and install assets to approved standards.

The role includes supervising crew, mentoring apprentices, handling stock, and providing technical advice, with weekend/on-call duties and a strong emphasis on safety and community service.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in construction and maintenance in water and/or wastewater.
• Ability to coordinate projects and resources.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Good numeracy and basic computer skills.
• Commitment to EEO and WHS principles.
• Desirable: Local Government experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain Council’s water supply and sewerage reticulation schemes and infrastructure.
• Assist with the development of project plans and resource allocation.
• Carry out the construction and installation of water and sewer assets to the approved standard.
• Assist with maintenance of Water and Sewerage Treatment Plants and reticulation operations.
• Oversee activities by labourers, plant operators and contractors on projects.
• Supervise, train and mentor apprentices as required.
• Review stock consumption levels and advise on orders.
• Assist with municipal swimming pool maintenance as required.
• Provide technical advice in maintenance and operation of reticulation schemes.
• Collect samples for treatment staff as required.
• Maintain log sheets, asset records and monthly reports.
• Respond to enquiries from internal and external customers promptly.
• Promote the Council’s image and public relations.
• Liaise with clients, staff, public and authorities; exchange information.
• Undertake routine admin tasks like timesheets.
• Assist senior staff to improve processes and develop new practices.
• Participate in training and disaster management exercises.
• Undertake other duties consistent with skills and training.

Confined Space, MUTCD Level 2, Breathing Apparatus, Class A Asbestos, Trenching & Shoring (Desirable)
