Job description

Warehouse & Inventory Coordinator – PP0010

Permanent Full-Time | Stream A Level 6 | Base annual salary $113,123.72 - $120,674.72 | 9-day fortnight roster

About This Opportunity

Are you an experienced warehouse, logistics or procurement leader ready to take ownership of a diverse, multi-site operation? Mackay Regional Council is seeking a proactive Warehouse & Inventory Coordinator to lead staff, strengthen inventory control, support supplier and contract activity, and drive safe, efficient warehouse operations across our workshop locations and depots. This is an opportunity to step into a practical leadership role where your warehouse expertise, systems knowledge and improvement mindset will directly support Council’s frontline operations and service delivery across the Mackay region.

About The Role

As Warehouse & Inventory Coordinator, you will be responsible for leading day-to-day warehouse operations while helping shape longer-term improvements in stock control, supplier engagement, contract review and operational performance. Working closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers and workshop teams, you will help ensure materials, equipment and inventory are available, accurate, compliant and managed safely across multiple locations. You will also play a key role in modernising our inventory and warehouse systems, strengthening purchasing controls, and reporting directly to the Chief Procurement Officer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise, support and develop warehouse staff to maintain positive team performance, safe work practices and service delivery outcomes.
  • Oversee warehouse operations across multiple workshop locations and depots, including stock movement, storage, receipting, issuing and inventory accuracy.
  • Coordinate stocktakes, inventory reviews and compliance activities to ensure accurate records and effective stock control.
  • Support contract negotiations, contract review processes, quotations and procurement-related activities.
  • Build and maintain effective supplier relationships to support timely, cost-effective and reliable supply outcomes.
  • Identify and implement business improvement opportunities across warehousing, logistics, procurement and electronic systems.
  • Ensure workplace health and safety requirements are understood, applied and monitored across warehouse operations.
  • Use ERP and electronic inventory systems to manage information, track performance and support informed decision-making.
  • Lead process, systems and digital improvement initiatives across warehousing and inventory operations, challenging existing practice to drive better outcomes.
  • Ensure purchasing and inventory transactions comply with Council's financial delegations and purchasing controls, working closely with the broader Procurement team.
About you

You are a confident and collaborative warehouse leader who can balance operational priorities with strong people leadership, compliance and continuous improvement. You will bring a proactive approach, excellent communication skills and the ability to work strategically while still staying connected to day-to-day warehouse requirements.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Have:
  • More than five years’ experience in a similar warehouse, logistics, procurement, inventory or operational leadership role.
  • Strong leadership capability, with the ability to guide, motivate and support a team in a busy operational environment.
  • Very good knowledge of ERP, electronic inventory or warehouse management systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in inventory management, stocktakes, compliance, supplier engagement and warehouse operations.
  • Strong communication, time management, planning and organisational skills.
  • A collaborative, team-focused and solution-driven approach, with the confidence to identify improvements and influence positive change.
  • A strategic mindset, supported by practical operational judgement and attention to detail.
Essential qualifications and requirements
  • Relevant qualification in warehousing, logistics, business, procurement or a related discipline, such as a degree, diploma or Certificate IV, and/or substantial relevant experience.
  • Current High Risk Forklift Licence.
  • Current Queensland C Class Driver Licence.
  • Demonstrated experience working across warehousing, logistics, business and procurement functions.
