Job summary

MacKillop Family Services in Newcastle is seeking experienced Youth Workers to support residents in our Intensive Therapeutic Care program across the Hunter region. Casual, part-time and full-time roles are available, with a focus on trauma-informed care and family-centred support.

You will help young people develop living skills, model positive behavior, and engage them in a participatory environment. A Diploma in Youth Work or equivalent is required, with Aboriginal knowledge and cultural

Qualifications

• Diploma in Youth Work or equivalent is required.
• Aboriginal staff - experience and willingness to participate in training is essential.
• Demonstrated skills and experience in youth services, residential care or supported accommodation.
• Knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values; awareness of issues faced by Aboriginal children and families.
• Demonstrated experience working therapeutically with children and young people who have experienced trauma.

Responsibilities

• Assist young people to develop living and life skills.
• Role model and reinforce positive behavior through social learning and emotional intelligence.
• Promote democracy and help young people engage in decision making.
• Provide support to residents including household duties as needed.
• Participate in team meetings to ensure services meet young people’s needs.
• Safeguard wellbeing and report concerns immediately.
