Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service – Thursday Island QLD invites applications for a HP3 Trainee Sonographer, a two-year training opportunity to complete your Graduate Diploma in Medical Sonography while gaining hands-on experience.

Based on Thursday Island, you will work with highly experienced senior sonographers in a remote hospital setting, delivering broad imaging exposure across primary care, emergency, inpatient and remote healthcare.

Qualifications

Must be a Radiographer with current CT experience.
Interest in Ultrasound training through HP3 Trainee Sonographer program.
Willingness to participate in after-hours CT/Radiography on-call.

Responsibilities

Complete Graduate Diploma in Medical Sonography over two years.
Work under supervision of senior sonographers and clinicians.
Contribute to imaging services including CT and radiography on Thursday Island.

Thursday Island Medical Imaging is seeking a Radiographer with current CT experience and a passion for learning Ultrasound to join our department as a HP3 Trainee Sonographer.

About the opportunity

This is a full-time, two-year training opportunity, offering the chance to complete your Graduate Diploma in Medical Sonography while gaining hands‑on experience in a supportive remote hospital environment.

The workload on Thursday Island is diverse, challenging, and highly rewarding, encompassing the full spectrum of primary care, emergency presentations, inpatient services, and complex remote healthcare. This breadth of clinical exposure provides an outstanding foundation for developing advanced sonography skills.

You will be supported by highly experienced senior sonographers and clinicians who are committed to mentoring and guiding you throughout your training journey. In addition, Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service partners with the Rural and Remote Sonography Program, providing opportunities for tertiary hospital placements in Brisbane to complement and strengthen your local clinical training experience.

While the department operates Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, participation in an after‑hours CT and Radiography on‑call roster will be required.
