Job summary

2XM RECRUIT PTY LTD is seeking a Trades Assistant / Mechanical Operator to join the Granville workshop in Western Sydney. The role involves assembling, maintaining and testing mechanical and electrical components for rail HVAC products.

You will work Monday to Friday, day shift, 7:00am to 3:30pm, on a casual-permanent long-term project with overtime and RDO accrual. Applicants should hold a Certificate II in Engineering or related trade and have hands-on workshop experience.

Qualifications

• Certificate II in Engineering or mechanical/electrical trade qualification.
• Experience as Trades Assistant or Mechanical Operator.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and BOMs.
• Experience using hand and power tools within a workshop or factory.
• WHSE and quality control awareness.

• Casual - Permanent long term (5X Years duration project).
• Monday - Friday | Day Shift | 7:00am - 3:30pm
• Earn up to $52.74 Per Hour Casual + Overtime + RDO Accrual

Our valued rail engineering client is a highly respected global organisation specialising in the design, manufacture, overhaul and servicing of critical systems and components used throughout the rail industry.
Operating from its Granville workshop in Western Sydney, the business provides specialist engineering, maintenance and overhaul services across sophisticated HVAC and rail equipment.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Trades Assistant / Mechanical Operator to join an established engineering operation, working within a quality-focused workshop environment where safety, technical excellence, efficiency and continuous improvement are key priorities.

The Role:

Working within the Granville workshop, you'll be responsible for supporting the mechanical and electrical assembly, maintenance, refurbishment and basic testing of company products and components.
You'll apply practical mechanical and/or electrical skills while working under limited supervision and ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with company quality standards.
Your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited too:

• Perform mechanical and/or electrical assembly of company products and components.
• Conduct basic testing of completed products and assemblies.
• Support the refurbishment and maintenance of mechanical and/or electrical components.
• Assist with basic fault identification, diagnosis and reporting under supervision.
• Follow engineering drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical manuals and work instructions when completing routine tasks.
• Use hand, power and machine tools safely and effectively.
• Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
• Report non-conformances and assist with corrective actions where required.
• Complete relevant checksheets and workshop documentation.
• Maintain 5S and workplace organisation standards.
• Participate in toolbox talks and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support cross-functional tasks and maintain flexibility across different work cells.
• Assist coworkers when required or as instructed by the Team Leader, Supervisor or Manager.
• Provide buddy training to coworkers where instructed by the Team Leader, Supervisor or Manager.
• Ensure compliance with WHSE procedures, quality requirements and company standards.
• Take ownership of the WHSE, quality and efficiency of your own work.
• Maintain strong punctuality, attendance and personal time management.
• Complete other tasks as directed by Leading Hands, Supervisors or Managers.

Key Technical Experience:

Ideally, you'll bring hands-on experience across:

• Mechanical and/or electrical fitting and assembly.
• Mechanical or electrical component refurbishment and maintenance.
• Use of hand, power and machine tools.
• Basic fault identification and diagnostic activities.
• Reading and interpreting basic engineering drawings.
• Working from Bills of Materials (BOMs), technical manuals and work instructions.
• Workshop or factory-based production environments.
• WHSE practices and quality control procedures.
• 5S and workplace organisation.
• Basic computer systems and documentation.

What You Need:

• Certificate II in Engineering, Mechanical or Electrical trade-related qualification, or equivalent experience.
• Previous experience as a Trades Assistant, Mechanical Operator or within a similar workshop/manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience in mechanical and/or electrical fitting and assembly.
• Experience using hand and power tools within a workshop or factory environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, BOMs and technical manuals.
• Basic fault-finding and diagnostic capabilities.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical and/or electrical principles.
• Familiarity with WHSE practices and quality control procedures.
• Basic computer skills.
• Strong attention to quality, safety and detail.
