Job summary

Legend Hire is seeking a Temporary Works Engineer for Melbourne (Spotswood) to act as the local technical authority for propping and shoring. You will report to the National Manager - Legend Projects and collaborate with project managers, install crews and the national engineering team.

You will design schemes, perform calculations, and produce drawings within tight turnarounds, while ensuring compliance with Australian standards and site requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Structural). We'll consider Mechanical if you have proven structural design experience
• At least 3 years of temporary works design experience in propping, shoring, formwork, excavation support or similar
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (Structural or Civil) in Victoria, or eligibility to register within 12 months
• Working knowledge of the Australian Standards for temporary works and structural design
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Bluebeam, plus experience with at least one structural analysis package
• A current White Card and a full Australian driver's licence

Responsibilities

• Design propping schemes (façade retention, needling, back-propping, tramway, tilt panel, bracing) and shoring schemes using the Legend fleet
• Complete load calculations, structural analysis and member checks in SpaceGass, Structural Toolkit, SupportIT or equivalent
• Design to AS/NZS 1170, AS 4100, AS 3610, AS/NZS 1576, AS 4744.1 and WorkSafe Victoria requirements
• Produce clear, compliant drawings in AutoCAD and Bluebeam, and certify designs within your registration scope
• Deliver an engineered concept and price within 48 hours of an enquiry
• Attend site assessments and early design meetings with builders, remedial and civil contractors, consultants and asset owners
• Brief install crews, inspect and sign off works on site, and manage design variations quickly and in writing
• Design for profit by using the fleet efficiently, keeping sub-hire to a minimum and recovering engineering time on every job
• Help build Legend's design standards library and feed site insight into product development

The opportunity

We need a Civil or Structural engineer to be the local technical authority for our Propping & Shoring divisions.

You'll report to our National Manager - Legend Projects. You'll work closely with our Project Solutions Managers, install crews and national engineering team.

Key responsibilities

• Design propping schemes (façade retention, needling, back-propping, tramway, tilt panel, bracing) and shoring schemes (trench shoring, slide rail, aluminium shoring boxes, excavation support) using the Legend fleet
• Complete load calculations, structural analysis and member checks in SpaceGass, Structural Toolkit, SupportIT or equivalent
• Design to AS/NZS 1170, AS 4100, AS 3610, AS/NZS 1576, AS 4744.1 and WorkSafe Victoria requirements

• Engineering experience with an equipment rental company, a propping or shoring contractor, or a temporary works consultancy
• Façade retention work, work near tram or rail corridors, or deep excavation projects in Melbourne
• CPEng / NER, or RPEQ for work across state borders
• An existing network of Melbourne builders and civil contractors
