Job summary

Noosa Shire Council is seeking a Technical Officer - Traffic to help shape a safer and more efficient transport network within the Noosa Shire. You will investigate traffic and road safety issues, analyse transport data and contribute to initiatives that support sustainable outcomes for the community.

The role sits in the Major Projects and Transport team and offers a permanent, full-time position with a competitive remuneration package.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of traffic engineering and road safety principles.
• Experience in traffic investigations, site inspections and data analysis.
• Ability to interpret Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; report writing and stakeholder engagement.
• Experience with mapping and traffic-related software.

• $105,804 Total Remuneration Package which is based on a full-time employee and inclusive of 12% Employer superannuation and 17.5% annual leave loading.

About You

You're a motivated transport, traffic or civil engineering professional with strong analytical and problem-solving skills. You enjoy investigating complex issues, working with technical data and engaging with stakeholders to develop practical solutions. With a customer-focused approach, you're committed to improving road safety and transport outcomes for the community.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake traffic investigations and technical assessments relating to road safety, parking, signage, speed management and traffic operations
• Collect, analyse and interpret traffic and transport data to identify issues and support evidence-based recommendations
• Assess traffic management plans, signage, pavement markings and traffic control devices, identifying compliance and improvement opportunities
• Prepare technical correspondence, reports and advice, and respond to transport and traffic-related enquiries from the community and stakeholders

Skills and Experience

• Knowledge of traffic engineering, road safety principles and relevant standards, guidelines and legislation
• Experience undertaking traffic investigations, site inspections and transport data analysis
• Ability to interpret Traffic Management Plans, Traffic Guidance Schemes and traffic control requirements
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to develop sound technical recommendations
• Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and stakeholder engagement
• Experience using mapping, data management and traffic-related software systems

Qualifications

• Diploma or Associate Diploma in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated experience
• Current C Class driver licence
• Traffic Management Design qualification (desirable)
• Experience in local government or a civil engineering environment (desirable)
• Experience with SIDRA, QGIS, AutoCAD or similar software (desirable)
