Rosewood Partners partners with a scaling software company to recruit an Engineering Manager in Australia. You will remain hands-on, shaping architecture and guiding a multi-disciplinary team of developers and operations specialists in a fast-paced, secure environment.

You will lead solution architecture for backend systems and cloud infrastructure in AWS, drive DevSecOps with IaC and observability, and mentor engineers while ensuring high-quality, compliant delivery.

Introduction

We are partnering with a scaling software company that builds high-traffic, secure web applications handling complex data and transactions for thousands of users across Australia. They are currently expanding their core product suite and need strong technical leadership to help scale their platforms and engineering practices for the next phase of their growth.

About the role

As an Engineering Manager, you will step into a pivotal position bridging technical execution and team development. Rather than stepping away from the code, you will remain deeply embedded in the day-to-day engineering, shaping architecture, and guiding a multi-disciplinary team of developers and operations specialists. The environment is fast-paced, focusing on continuous improvement, robust security practices, and scaling applications to meet complex enterprise demands.

The team will rely on you to:

• Lead solution architecture and technical direction for complex back-end systems, APIs, and cloud infrastructure.
• Oversee end-to-end DevSecOps practices, managing CI/CD pipelines, release processes, and broader infrastructure-as-code initiatives.
• Maintain a deeply hands-on approach by actively writing code, managing pull requests, and resolving critical technical roadblocks alongside the engineers.
• Produce clear, high-quality technical documentation to ensure all design decisions and platform architectures are traceable.
• Ensure delivery continuously meets strict quality, accessibility, and security compliance standards.
• Manage and mentor a cross-functional team, fostering their career growth through regular check-ins, structured coaching, and technical reviews.

Ideally you have:

• A proven background as a Technical Lead or Principal Engineer with direct people leadership experience.
• Deep expertise in cloud-native architecture, microservices, and API design within AWS environments.
• Practical experience driving operational readiness and DevSecOps, including strong knowledge of infrastructure-as-code and observability tooling.
• Strong hands‑on coding capability, utilising Python alongside modern web technologies.

Bonus points if you also have:

• Experience building, integrating, or managing distributed and offshore engineering teams.
• A background delivering digital projects in highly regulated, compliance‑heavy, or enterprise‑scale environments (such as adhering to ISO27001 or SOC 2).
