Job summary

Saasnine in Melbourne is seeking a Technical Lead / Principal Engineer to own the technical direction of the product. This is architectural ownership, engineering leadership, and delivery accountability combined.

You will own end-to-end solution architecture (backend, integrations, infrastructure) and drive security-by-design, scalability and maintainability while engaging with government stakeholders. Hybrid or remote work is supported.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as Technical Lead / Principal Engineer.
• Experience with microservices and API design.
• Experience with AWS cloud-native architectures (Lambda, API Gateway).
• CI/CD, DevSecOps, Infrastructure-as-Code.
• Strong technical documentation capability.
• Experience mentoring engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end solution architecture (backend, integrations, infrastructure).
• Drive security-by-design, scalability, and maintainability.
• Engage directly with client technical and business stakeholders.
• Shape architectural direction across microservices and cloud-native patterns.
• Author Technical Specifications and Solution Designs; maintain Design Decision Records.
• Mentor developers and automation test engineers; lead code reviews and standards uplift.
• Lead technical refinement, elaboration and estimation; identify risks early.
• Work closely with project and product stakeholders; ensure traceability and documentation.
• Ensure adherence to government security standards; align to SOC2 / ISO27001; guide observability and operational readiness.

They are extending a core platform into a consumer-facing web application used by thousands of Victorian households and businesses — and are now seeking a Technical Lead / Principal Engineer to own the technical direction of the product.

This is not just a lead developer role.
