Job summary

Talenza is seeking a hands-on Technical Lead for a Brisbane-based, hybrid role working on greenfield AI initiatives and modern APIs.

You will split time 50/50 between coding and guiding technical direction, shaping architecture and leading key projects across backend services and microservices. Collaboration with multiple teams and a strong emphasis on quality, scalability, and mentorship are central to the role.

Our client is a large, well-established retail organisation with a significant technology function supporting products and services used by customers across Australia and internationally.

About the role

This is a genuinely hands-on Technical Lead role for someone who wants to stay close to the code while taking ownership of technical direction across key projects.

You’ll be roughly 50/50 hands-on development and technical leadership, spending plenty of time on the tools alongside breaking down technical problems, making technical decisions and contributing to technical documentation.

The team is heavily backend focused and is building out new APIs and microservices using event-driven architecture. You’ll work alongside multiple engineering teams, including Booking, Front End and Applications, so being comfortable collaborating, asking questions and influencing technical decisions will be important.

There are no direct reports in this role. Instead, you’ll provide technical leadership across parts of the project, mentor developers and help guide the team through technical challenges and decisions.

They’re open to an experienced Technical Lead, but equally interested in a strong Senior Engineer who is technically sound, driven and ready to take that next step into technical leadership.
