Job summary

Unisys is seeking a Technical Field Engineer in Cairns, QLD, to diagnose and repair laptops, desktops and related IT hardware onsite. You will travel across the Cairns region, providing hands-on hardware support and ensuring service commitments are met.

Ideal candidates have 1–2 years in hardware repair or field service, strong troubleshooting, and a current Australian driver's licence. OEM certifications are advantageous for advancement.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience in hardware repair, field services, desktop support, or technical support environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
• Experience replacing hardware components, including motherboards, screens, batteries, keyboards, SSDs, and memory modules.
• Good understanding of Windows operating systems and desktop computing environments.
• Current Australian Driver's Licence and willingness to travel throughout the Cairns region.
• OEM or manufacturer certifications are advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair laptops, desktops, and related IT hardware.

• Perform hardware diagnostics, BIOS updates, firmware upgrades, testing, and validation activities.

• Collaborate with customers, service delivery teams, and technical support groups.
• Follow customer-specific procedures, safety requirements, and service level commitments.
• Meet SLA targets while maintaining service quality and customer satisfaction.

What You'll Bring

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification.
• Technical certification, Associate Degree, or relevant vocational training preferred.
• 1 to 2 years of experience in hardware repair, field services, desktop support, or technical support environments.
• Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills.
• Experience replacing hardware components, including motherboards, screens, batteries, keyboards, SSDs, and memory modules.
• Good understanding of Windows operating systems and desktop computing environments.
• Experience with Dell, Lenovo, or other major OEM hardware platforms is highly desirable.
• Strong communication, customer service, and documentation skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple service requests.
• Current Australian Driver's Licence and willingness to travel throughout the Cairns region.
• OEM or manufacturer certifications are advantageous.
