Job summary

SMC Corporation is seeking a Technical Design Engineer to support the Sales team and customers, designing engineering solutions that meet statutory regulations and SMC quality standards. You will deliver technical documentation, assist operations, and provide robust customer service across ANZ.

The role emphasizes CAD design, PLC programming, and ensuring “fit for purpose” designs while maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of new product developments.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ relevant engineering experience in a manufacturing/industrial environment.
• PLC programming experience preferred.
• Proficient in 2D/3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
• Tertiary qualification in Engineering is essential: Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering with relevant industry experience (preferred) or Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (acceptable).

Responsibilities

• Design products and systems which meet AU/NZ regulatory requirements.
• Develop products and systems that meet SMC ANZ standards for technical quality and cost effectiveness.
• Produce technical design documents and research references per industry standards.
• Provide technical and engineering support to Sales, Production, Quality, Logistics and Customer Service groups.
• Review products and applications and make recommendations to minimize risk to the company.
• Ensure compliance of imported components with electrical compliance and local standards.

Job description

We are looking for a talented Technical Design Engineer who will be responsible for providing technical support to the Sales team and customers for the purpose of growing SMC’s market share. This position designs and develops engineering solutions that meet statutory regulations, technical requirements, and SMC quality standards, supporting the delivery of engineering operations and providing customer service and technical support to both internal and external customers.

You’ll be Responsible for

Technical Products & Systems Design & Development

Design products and systems which comply to applicable regulatory and AU/NZ statutory requirements.

Develop products and systems which meet SMC Corporation ANZ technical, quality and cost effectiveness standards.

Ensure compliance with SMC scope of work and restricted applications, alignment with design costs and processes and that product design is “fit for the purpose”.

Maintain an up-to-date technical knowledge of the company’s new product developments.

Produce technical design documents of proposed products or systems which meet SMC Corporation ANZ and industry standards

Use approved reference and standards for the research and resourcing of technical documentation

Engineering & Technical Support

Provide technical and engineering support to Sales, Production, Quality, Logistics, Product Management, Customer Service Groups and customers

Provide Sales with accurate costing and design information and solutions in response to customer enquiries.

Effectively manage internal / external customer relationships throughout the enquiry process.

Provide additional services to customers as required.

Review products and applications and make recommendations that minimize the risk exposure to the company.

Ensure local compliance of imported components (e.g. electrical compliance).

Work closely with Engineering Team to undertake reviews of contracts to ensure risk to SMC is minimised as much as possible (including Sales Enquiry Reviews).

Quality Assurance

Develop products which meet SMC Corporation ANZ’s technical, quality and cost effectiveness standards.

Ensure compliance with relevant AU/NZ Design standards.

Ensure compliance with relevant AU/NZ or International standards (as required) of any component or final assembly used or manufactured within the company.

Verify quality compliance with quality standards throughout the design/manufacturing process.

About You
