Job summary

SMC Corporation is seeking a Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) Coordinator to establish, maintain, and audit integrated management systems across ANZ. The role focuses on site safety, regulatory compliance, environmental sustainability and product quality standards.

You will promote HSEQ principles, support leadership with policies and processes, and manage documentation, records and training to drive continuous improvement and risk reduction.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in QHSE, preferably manufacturing.
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001/14001/45001 and related standards.
• Experience with Australian/New Zealand HSE legislation.

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) Coordinator

We have an opportunity for a talented Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) Coordinator who will be responsible for establishing, maintaining, and auditing integrated management systems to ensure site safety, regulatory compliance, environmental sustainability, and product quality standards.

You’ll be Responsible for

HSEQ Coordination & Support

• Promote Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental principles across SMC ANZ.
• Support leaders and operational teams with HSEQ policies, procedures, systems and requirements.
• Assist with implementation, review and improvement of HSEQ processes and the Management System.
• Maintain accurate, controlled HSEQ documentation and records.
• Provide practical HSEQ guidance and escalatе significant risks, incidents and non-conformances.

HSEQ Compliance

• Maintain awareness of applicable Australian and New Zealand HSEQ legislation, Codes of Practice and ISO requirements.
• Maintain compliance obligations and support periodic compliance reviews.
• Conduct inspections and support internal/external audits and certification activities.
• Coordinate audit evidence and follow up corrective actions to completion.

Quality Assurance & Manufacturing Quality

• Support quality standards, processes and controls across Operations.
• Conduct quality surveillance, sampling, incoming inspections and preventative quality checks.
• Verify inspection, testing and process controls and identify non-conformances.
• Support Quality Control Plans, ITPs, SOPs, containment and corrective actions.
• Support calibration and inspection of measuring equipment and maintain records.
• Assist with HSEQ risk assessments and reviews.
• Identify risks and support implementation and monitoring of effective controls.
• Participate in risk assessments for new equipment, materials, processes, projects and changes.
• Review risks following incidents, changes and non-conformances.

Incident & Non-Conformance Management

• Support reporting, investigation and recording of HSEQ incidents, near misses and quality non-conformances.
• Assist with root cause analysis, corrective actions and lessons learned.
• Maintain corrective action registers and verify action completion.
• Support product containment and recall activities where required.
• Escalate significant or recurring issues.

HSE Inspections & Workplace Safety

• Conduct routine HSE inspections across manufacturing, warehouse, office and operational areas.
• Identify hazards and unsafe practices and follow up corrective actions.
• Support inspections of high-risk activities, machinery, chemicals and emergency equipment.
• Support emergency preparedness, drills and contractor HSE requirements.

Training & Communication

• Coordinate and support HSEQ training, inductions and toolbox talks.
• Assist with development of training materials and awareness communications.
• Support employees and frontline leaders with HSEQ processes, reporting and risk controls.
• Maintain training and competency records.

HSEQ Management System & Documentation

• Maintain HSEQ procedures, forms, checklists, work instructions and records.
• Coordinate document reviews and ensure controlled information is current and accessible.
• Support HSEQ software administration, including MANGO or equivalent.
• Ensure HSEQ data and records are accurate and up to date.

Supplier, Contractor & Operational Support

• Support supplier HSEQ qualification activities, inspections and corrective actions.
• Assist with contractor HSEQ compliance, documentation and induction.
• Support HSEQ requirements for new suppliers, materials, equipment and processes.
• Escalate significant supplier or contractor issues.

New Products, Projects & Change

• Provide HSEQ support for NPD/NPI, new or modified processes and equipment, suppliers, materials and manufacturing projects.
• Support Change Management, risk assessments, control verification, inspections and validation activities.
• Identify and support improvements to HSEQ processes, controls and documentation.
• Participate in Lean and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Support reduction of defects, rework, scrap, waste and environmental impacts.
• Share lessons learned and monitor improvement effectiveness.

HSEQ Reporting & KPIs

• Collect and maintain HSEQ performance data and registers.
• Prepare reports and dashboards and monitor agreed KPIs and trends.
• Provide timely HSEQ information to management and support management reviews.
• Coordinate ANZ HSE/Safety Committee meetings, minutes and action registers.
• Follow up actions and communicate relevant initiatives and outcomes.
• Provide administrative support for return-to-work and workers’ compensation activities in liaison with People & Culture.
• Maintain records and support stakeholder communication and agreed actions.
• Other relevant responsibilities to the role.

About You

Qualifications

• Ability to read engineering drawings. Diploma in mechanical engineering or other engineering fields (preferred).
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in quality, health & safety, environment, or equivalent relevant industry experience (preferred).

Experience & Background

• 5+ years’ experience in QHSE, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
• Practical knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 and relevant industry standards.
• Working knowledge of Australian and New Zealand HSE legislation and Codes of Practice.
• Experience developing and delivering HSE training and supporting safety culture and capability.
• Experience coordinating projects addressing HSE and environmental risks.
• Experience supporting incident investigations, return-to-work and workers’ compensation processes.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and use precision measuring equipment and tools.
• Strong commitment to safety, lean manufacturing and continuous improvement.
• Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving skills, with experience supporting policies and procedures.
• Ability to analyse and report HSEQ data and KPIs.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and strong stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
