Job summary

Emmetts seeks an experienced John Deere technician to join our centralised technical support network as a Technical Communicator. This role blends hands-on diagnostics with remote support, linking branch technicians, service leaders and John Deere’s DTAC to speed fault resolution.

Based at a suitable Emmetts branch across our network (Wimmera, Mid North or Eyre Peninsula preferred), you will mentor technicians, use JDLink and Connected Support, and maintain up-to-date technical expertise while

Qualifications

• Qualified diesel mechanic with hands-on experience diagnosing John Deere agricultural machinery.
• Ability to interpret fault codes and diagnose CAN bus, hydraulic and electrical faults.
• Experience with John Deere diagnostic tools and connected-support platforms.
• Strong communication and coaching skills for mentoring branch technicians.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex fault diagnosis and liaise with DTAC to resolve cases.
• Provide advanced remote and on-site technical support to technicians across the network.
• Utilise John Deere Connected Support, JDLink and other tools for proactive machine health management.
• Monitor Expert Alerts and DTCs, coordinating service interventions to minimise downtime.
• Guide branch technicians through diagnosis and repair of CAN bus, ethernet, hydraulic and electrical faults.
• Analyse machine data and communicate clear technical recommendations to branch teams.
• Contribute to internal technical training and knowledge sharing.

Emmetts is seeking an experienced John Deere technician to join our centralised technical support network in a Technical Communicator role. This is an opportunity to move beyond a traditional workshop position while remaining closely connected to machinery, diagnostics and branch service teams.

You will combine advanced technical expertise with remote diagnostic support, acting as a key link between branch technicians, service leaders and John Deere’s Dealer Technical Assistance Center (DTAC). Your work will help accelerate fault diagnosis, reduce customer downtime and build technical capability across the Emmetts network.

This role will suit a qualified technician who enjoys complex diagnostics, problem-solving, coaching others and using connected technology to deliver practical outcomes for customers and service teams.

The position will ideally be based at one of our branches in a suitable Emmetts location, ideally within the Wimmera, Mid North or Eyre Peninsula, providing access to multiple branches across our network.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead complex fault diagnosis and liaise with John Deere’s Dealer Technical Assistance Center (DTAC) to escape and resolve cases.
• Provide advanced remote and on-site technical support to technicians across the Emmetts network.
• Use John Deere Connected Support™, Remote Display Access, Expert Connect and other diagnostic tools to support proactive machine health management.
• Monitor and action Expert Alerts and JDLink™ Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), coordinating service interventions to minimise customer downtime.
• Provide timely & accurate technical support for complex CAN bus, ethernet, hydraulic and electrical system faults, guiding branch technicians through diagnosis and repair.
• Analyse machine data, identify emerging issues and communicate clear technical recommendations to branch teams.
• Contribute to building internal capability through mentoring, coaching, knowledge sharing and internal technical training initiatives.
• Participate in John Deere-accredited programs and technician development pathways.
• Maintain your own technical expertise through ongoing hands-on exposure, training and professional development.
• A Diesel Mechanic trade qualification or equivalent.
• Strong hands-on experience servicing and diagnosing John Deere agricultural machinery.
• Advanced troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Working knowledge of Service ADVISOR™, DTAC, JDLink™, Connected Support™ and dealership business systems.
• Clear communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to guide and influence teams remotely.
• A collaborative approach and genuine interest in developing the capability of others.
• Confidence using Microsoft Office and standard business applications.
• Demonstrated experience diagnosing CAN bus, ethernet, hydraulic and electrical system faults, ideally in a technical support or service support environment.
• A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel within the branch network when required.
